I love it when projects get released without any real prior warning. Take the third instalment of the exquisite Lice series, which Aesop Rock and Homeboy Sandman have been treating us to for the last couple of years. Friday saw its arrival without much hype building, except for an IG post from Aesop Rock, which pictured him and Sand with the caption “What are you doing Friday? #3”.
Then on Friday the EP was suddenly all over my various timelines and we were treated to five more segments of cerebral rap from the left-field. No surprises that both MCs are on fine form, as is always the way with these Lice releases; there always seems to be constant bar-raising.
Plus the beat choices are impeccable, with M Slago, Cohenbeats, Oh No, Ben Boogz and Quelle Chris all supplying that audible nectar.
As usual, Jeremy Fish provided the artwork, making the complete package a joy to behold. It’s ready to stream below, with digital downloads available here.
