More luxurious funk explorations from Thundercat, as he keeps the momentum going for his imminent new album. Fair Chance is our latest peek at what the new project has in store, with Thundercat finding support on the track from Ty Dolla $ign and Lil B. It Is What It Is is due for release on 3 April via Brainfeeder.
Knxwledge returns with another insight into his forthcoming album, thanks to this new video which features two of the cuts. Don’t Be Afraid is up first, with a pretty heavy 90’s RnB feel thanks in part to the vocals he’s used, before it drifts into [bc] tm_s not promised, which stands as more of an interlude and is backed up by some nice souful keys. The album, 1988, is due for release on Stones Throw on 27 March. The video was made by Rhymezlikedimez.
New music from Children of Zeus, as they release a double AA-side single for the Valentine’s Day celebrations. It really is a two part affair, with the soulful first track, Royal, sounding like it just walked out of the 70’s, while Get What’s Yours has a distinctly more potent neo soul vibe. Both tracks were written and produced by Konny and Tyler. You can stream them below and a limited edition 7″ is also available. Continue reading “Children of Zeus: Royal / Get What’s Yours”
Beautiful sounds from Mali Hayes, on her new single, Oceans. Having recently made a fantastic appearance on the final Foreign Beggars album, the singer-songwriter now turns her focus back towards her city, with a track alongside fellow Manchester artist and blog favourite, LayFullStop. The song was produced by RKW.
A great selection of music here, as First Word Records wheel out their latest end of year compilation. For Two Syllables, DJ Gilla compiled a number of tracks that have been released by First Word artists over the last 12 months, including gems from Don Leisure, Darkhouse Family and 14KT, as well as a brand new song from Manchester soul-rap duo, Children of Zeus. You can stream the selection in full below and free downloads are available via Bandcamp.
Another great single from Bristol-based vocalist, Chikaya, as she conjures up more trappy future soul sounds with her elusive producer, on the aptly named Himalayas.
Beautiful sounds from the Free Nationals, as they release their joyously soulful debut album. As you would expect the self-titled LP features an impressive support cast, including reggae vocalist, Chronixx, The Internet’s, Syd, and the man responsible for first bringing them to my attention, Anderson .Paak. You can stream a few tracks from the album below, including the Syd-assisted, Shibuya. Full downloads are available via Bandcamp.
It’s always a joy to hear new material from CW Jones and this latest song is exactly what we need right now. Mellow soulful bluesy vibes, from an artist who seems totally at ease within his musical world.
A heavy, soulful cut from Terri Walker, taken from her recent Joe Buhdha helmed EP, The Breakout. Can’t Tell Me Anything also features Manchester favourites and previous collaborators, Children of Zeus. The Breakout EP is available now on all the usual platforms.
Absolute monster of a track from Seanie T, as he gathers up fellow veterans from across the genres for this sprawling posse cut. The list of participants is impressive, with more years of service than I can count, under their collective belts. Roots Manuva, Rodney P, Blak Twang, Ragga Twins, Tony D, Ty, MC Creed, Hill Street Soul and Ricky Rankin are just a few of the 20+ artists involved, all backed up by some nice production from DJ Suro and Seanie T. Veterans is lifted from Seanie’s Rough, Rugged & Smooth album, which saw its release earlier this year.
