Pleased to see the arrival of the new project from PremRock and Curly Castro, as they connect to form Shrapknel. The duo have been friends and collaborators for a long time, so this union makes a lot of sense, even more so when you hear the EP itself. Featuring some stunning production from the likes of ELUCID, Fresh Kils and Small Pro, Cobalt is the perfect introduction to Shrapknel, as we await the release of their full-length album, which is produced entirely by ELUCID and Backwoodz Studioz in-house wizard, Willie Green. You can stream Cobalt in full below, with downloads available via Bandcamp. Read the rest of this entry »

’86 Witness is the long-awaited collaboration between the late great, Sean Price and Career Crooks producer, Small Professor. According to Duck Down the album has been years in the making, but now we are finally reaching the release date and if the first leak is anything to go by, we are in for a treat. John Gotti features a blistering list of MCs, as P is joined by AG Da Coroner, Guilty Simpson and Your Old Droog, accompanied by a suitably rugged beat from Small Pro. The rest of the album boasts a similar array of talented guests, including Zilla Rocca, Quelle Chris and ELUCID. Pre-orders for ’86 Witness are available now and you can stream John Gotti below. Good to see the long-awaited solo album from Zilla Rocca has finally been given life. Future Former Rapper is the culmination of a career which spans 13 years, all of them as a totally independent artist – which is no mean feat given how many fellow independents have been swallowed up or broken beyond repair during that same period.
The album is the perfect showcase for the talents that have kept Zilla afloat through those years and finds him accompanied by some of the artists that he has been associated with during that same time frame.
Guest spots are held by the likes of Armand Hammer, Serengeti and fellow Wrecking Crew representative, Curly Castro, as well as a bunch of high-end production credits from Steel Tipped Dove, Messiah Musik, Disco Vietnam and Small Pro. Future Former Rapper is ready to stream below, with downloads available via Bandcamp. Read the rest of this entry »

The Dead End Hip Hop gang recently premiered the brand new video from Career Crooks. It’s for Crook With a Deal, a sort of reworking of 50’s How To Rob, which is lifted from the Philly duo’s recent Thieving As Long As I’m Breathing album. The video captures those classic masked villain, heist style scenes, as Zilla Rocca raps about jacking various indie hip hop acts. The album is out now on URBNET.

Another strong cut from the recently released Armand Hammer album, Paraffin. billy woods & ELUCID connect with Career Crooks’ own Small Pro for Dettol, which is laced with more of that powerfully evocative lyricism. Paraffin is available exclusively via Backwoodz Studioz.

Philly duo Zilla Rocca & Small Pro – aka Career Crooks – return with a new musical selection, following on from their 2017 debut, Good Luck With That. Strong lyricism, production and criminality still reign supreme on what is ostensibly a remix album, but with some fresh material also thrown in. There are remixes from the duo themselves, as well as some other gems from Fresh Kils, DJ Manipulator, and Rolled Gold Beats to name a few. The album is out now on URBNET and you can stream it in full below. Read the rest of this entry »

Philly rap duo, Zilla Rocca and Small Pro – aka Career Crooks – released the fourth video from their excellent album yesterday, featuring a nice flip of THAT sample by The Mohawks. Corrupt Novelist is lifted from their Good Luck With That LP, which is out now on URBNET.

The homies over at Grown Up Rap recently premiered the new video from the Career Crooks album. The track is called Steve Martin and finds Zilla Rocca and Small Pro on point as ever, as with the rest of the album. Good Luck With That is out now on URBNET.
