Felt: Felt 4 U (Stream)

Following on from the surprise arrival of their first single in 11 years, now Felt are back with a whole new album. Felt 4 U is Murs and Slug’s first full-length project since the release of Felt 3 back in 2009, and on it we find the duo reuniting with arguably the most favoured producer from their earlier offerings – Ant. He’s cooked up a batch of beats which draw on his trademarks influences – funk, blues, country – resulting in an album where Ant is very much the driving force, representing a shift in the dynamic from their previous projects. Some superb guest spots too, with Blimes bringing her vocal excellence to the mix, as well as appearances from Felt 1 and 3 producers, The Grouch and Aesop Rock respectively. And finally a feature from Blueprint, but under his singing alias – Shepard Albertson. The whole album is a welcome surprise for fans and critics alike, judging by the initial reaction, and it also serves as a fitting next chapter in the duo’s journey. You can listen to the album in full below and physicals are available via Rhymesayers. Continue reading “Felt: Felt 4 U (Stream)”

Felt: Name In Ya Mouth

Good news from the Rhymesayers camp, as Murs and Slug reunite as Felt after an 11 year hiatus. 2009 was the last time the duo got together, when they released the Aesop Rock produced, Felt 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez. This latest single sees them once again joining forces with Ant, who held down the beats on their second escapade, with the Atmosphere producer crafting a funk-heavy banger to reintroduce the crew. Name In Ya Mouth is out now on all the usual platforms.

R.A. The Rugged Man ft. Slug & Eamon: Golden Oldies

New leak from the forthcoming R.A. The Rugged Man album, as he unveils the latest single. Golden Oldies is a lighthearted look at the impact of age gaps in relationships (with a couple of questionable bars) and also a more general comment on the topic of growing old. The track features a nice guest verse from Slug and a suitably soulful hook from Eamon, as well as some uplifting production from The KickDrums. All My Heroes Are Dead is due for release on 17 April.

Atmosphere ft. Musab & Muja Messiah: Dearly Beloved

An alternative Valentine’s message from Atmosphere as they release the latest video from their most recent album. Dearly Beloved features a couple of excellent guest spots from fellow Minnesota veterans, Musab and Muja Messiah, as well as plenty of animal heads, cocaine and a limousine. The video was made by Blood $moke Body. The track is lifted from Whenever, which is out now on Rhymesayers. Continue reading “Atmosphere ft. Musab & Muja Messiah: Dearly Beloved”

Atmosphere: Love Each Other

Monochrome dreams in the latest video from Atmosphere and their recent surprise album. On Love Each Other, we hear Slug examining the pitfalls and positives of taking relationships with sexual acquaintances to the next level, as Ant’s soothing, guitar-laced production eases into your ears. The video for Love Each Other was made by Tomas Aksamit and the album, Whenever, is out now on Rhymesayers. Continue reading “Atmosphere: Love Each Other”

Atmosphere ft. Nikki Jean: Lovely + LP Stream

Good news is scarce this morning, but luckily I do have something to brighten these post-election blues. At midnight, Minnesota hip hop pioneers, Atmosphere, decided to release a surprise new album, following on from the release of last year’s, Mi Vida Local. Kicking off with their recent single, Bde Maka Ska, the album then weaves its way through 11 more finely crafted tracks, with Slug and Ant as reliably on point as ever before. Atmosphere have released so many solid albums over the years, that at this point the only surprise is going to be if they hit us with a dud. Luckily, Whenever falls into their usual category of reliable rap. Features come from a mix of new and more familiar names, including fellow RSE artist, Nikki Jean, Dynospectrum veteran, Musab, and rising Minnesota rap star, Haphduzn. The album is available to stream in full below and there is also a video for the Jean assisted track, Lovely. Other streaming options are also available.

Atmosphere: Bde Maka Ska

Minneapolis favourites, Atmosphere, return to the fore once again, as they release a brand new track. Bde Maka Ska is the first single from the Rhymesayers duo, since last year’s excellent Mi Vida Local album. Atmosphere are gearing up to go on tour once again, kicking off in January in their hometown. More info is available on the Rhymesayers site.

Atmosphere ft. Musab: Earring

The latest video from Atmosphere was just given life, as they continue delivering the gems from their most recent album. On Earring, the Minneapolis duo draft in one of their oldest friends and collaborators, Musab FKA Beyond, with the video shot against a backdrop that feels like it could have been a Coen Brothers brainchild. Earring is lifted from Mi Vida Local, which is out now on Rhymesayers.
