If you follow Lee Scott on Facebook, you might have noticed he’s recently started posting up some of his favourite classic rap albums and urging his younger fans to go and explore them if they’re not already familiar. Me and Lee have had a few little rap related chats of our own in the past and so I thought I’d use the current situation as an opportunity to pick his brains about his favourite rappers from back in the day, plus a few other little questions here and there. So via Twitter DMs, we delved into a whole bunch of original talent, including Redman, Likwit Crew, Company Flow and The Cenobites (the title of this piece is a reference to their track, How The Fuck You Get A Deal). To be honest we could have gone on a lot longer, so maybe we’ll try and squeeze another one out before normality returns. For now though, get stuck into this geeky conversation.
An excellent new video from the recently released Price of Fame album from Sean Price and Lil Fame. For Center Stage, the late legend is recreated in puppet form and Fame receives the animation treatment, courtesy of video director Todd Angkasuwan. The track was produced by Fame. If you enjoyed the brilliance of Sean Price and Small Professor’s 86 Witness album, you will be pleased to hear that Small Pro has now released the instrumentals from the project. You can hear them in all their original glory below and downloads can be found over on Bandcamp. Continue reading “Sean Price & Small Professor: 86 Witness (Instrumentals)”
As I reported at the end of last month, a new Sean Price album was looming thanks to a collaboration with Philly producer, Small Professor. 86 Witness arrived in full on Friday and serves as a worthy addition to P’s weighty back catalogue. As alluded to in the title, the album is a homage to 1986 so expect a lot of timely references in the track names and beyond. Unlike some posthumous projects, 86 Witness has a really solid flow to it and is devoid of the clunky sound that plagues other releases made in a similar fashion. ’86 Witness is the long-awaited collaboration between the late great, Sean Price and Career Crooks producer, Small Professor. According to Duck Down the album has been years in the making, but now we are finally reaching the release date and if the first leak is anything to go by, we are in for a treat. John Gotti features a blistering list of MCs, as P is joined by AG Da Coroner, Guilty Simpson and Your Old Droog, accompanied by a suitably rugged beat from Small Pro. The rest of the album boasts a similar array of talented guests, including Zilla Rocca, Quelle Chris and ELUCID. Pre-orders for ’86 Witness are available now and you can stream John Gotti below. Yesterday marked the third anniversary of the untimely passing of the much loved, Sean Price. In honour of the great man, Duck Down released a new video for one of the tracks from his acclaimed 2017 album, Imperius Rex. Apartheid features fellow label mates, Buckshot and Steele, with production from Crummie Beats. Imperius Rex is out now on Duck Down Music.
Sean Price’s posthumous fourth studio album was released to acclaim this week and coincided with the NY rapper’s second anniversary. Imperius Rex has been well received by fans of P and a couple of videos have already been peeled off the project, including this one for Dead or Alive. The track was produced by The Adept and features not only a mean hook from P’s wife, Bernadette but there are also a few cameos in the video, including one from Michael Rapaport. Imperius Rex is out now on Duck Down Music.
MF DOOM has new music coming out. Let’s just let that settle for a second. Yesterday Adult Swim announced they would be releasing one new DOOM track a week, for the next 15 weeks, under the title The Missing Notebook Rhymes. The first track was released yesterday and features a great verse from Duck Down’s finest, Sean Price. It’s P’s anniversary (and his LP release day), so ideal timing really. Negus is a pretty sinister, moody number, so be interesting to see how the rest of the series progresses. Also be good to see if we finally get that Jay Elec collab. Stay tuned.
Tomorrow marks the anniversary of Sean Price’s death and in continuation of his already pretty hefty legacy, Duck Down are releasing P’s fourth studio album, Imperius Rex. Below you can find a track that has been lifted from the album, The 3 Lyrical Ps, which features Lox favourite, Styles P and another much-loved fallen hero, Prodigy. The track was produced by Harry Fraud. Pre-orders for the album are available at the Duck Down store. Continue reading “Sean Price ft. Prodigy & Styles P: The 3 Lyrical Ps”
This is the next joint to be leaked from the highly anticipated Sean Price album “Mic Tyson”. I don’t need to say much, except for the bars are big and the beat bangs, thanks to The Alchemist’s handiwork. Continue reading “Sean Price “Bar-Barian””
