Baileys Brown keeps us hooked with another new video from his recent Still Fresh LP. Swim sees the Bristol producer teaming up with fellow SW rap aficionados and regular collaborators, Datkid, Jinxsta JX and Hozay, all rounded off with a slick video from Don Wavey. The album is out now on Potent Funk.

Very happy to finally be able to bring you the new Baileys Brown solo LP in all its genre-defying glory. If you’re already familiar with Baileys Brown’s work, you will know he is a producer who is not afraid to venture outside the normal constraints of a genre and draw on musical influences from other areas, to create unique soundscapes which are among some of the most ambitious in the UK right now. When he found a home at Potent Funk it seemed like the ideal setting for his exploits, thanks to their already established love of ‘hybrid rap shit’ and with that in mind, Still Fresh serves as the perfect label debut. Another huge track from Baileys Brown as the release date for his solo album draws ever nearer. This time round, the Bristol producer has drafted in his old accomplice, Datkid, as well as his label-mate, Dabbla, with the trio going off in pursuit of that elusive cash money. And once again it’s another stunning visual accomplishment from This & That Media (keep your eyes peeled for plenty of UKHH related cameos too). The album, Still Fresh, is due for release on 26 July on Potent Funk.

This is the latest offering from the forthcoming album from Bristol producer, Baileys Brown. For Reeboks, he has joined forces with Datkid and Stinkin Slumrok, as well as own rap alter ego, Axel Holy. The result is a glitchy, warped beast of a track which only raises the anticipation for the full release. The video was made by Conz. Still Fresh is due for release next month on Potent Funk.

The good music run continues with the new video from Cobes. Despite being a player on the scene since the early LDZ days, this is Cobes’s first solo release and hopefully a sign that a full project is in the works. For Deja Vu Cobes has enlisted the production talents of regular Potent Funk collaborator, Don Piper, with Spin City Visuals on video duties (a video which could be deemed NSFW, so beware!). Streaming and download options are also available.

Here is the second video from the long-awaited solo EP from Illaman. As with the rest of the EP, Shook is produced by Norm Oddity and is taken from Give Us A Smile, which is out now on all the usual platforms.

Great video from the recently released Illaman EP, Give Us a Smile. Times of Change is produced by Norm Oddity, with a typically tight feature from DRS. The video was made by Tarnish Vision. The EP is out now on Potent Funk.

Potent Funk unveiled their latest release today, in the form of Illaman’s long-awaited solo EP. The MC has been a firm favourite over the years, thanks to his work with ProblemChild, Chinese Man and more recently PENGSHUi, as well as a whole bunch of features and collaborations. Now the time has come for a proper solo release, namely his Give Us a Smile EP, for which he has enlisted the production talents of Norm Oddity. Oddity brings a nice selection of beats to the project, ranging from the simple stripped down pleasure of the opening track, Sequence, to the pure glitchy joy of Air Max & Avirex, allowing for plenty of experimentation (and resultant success) from Illaman. There is a superb lone feature too from Illa’s old pal, DRS, who drops in on Times of Change – the video for which is dropping later today. Give Us a Smile can be heard in full below, with downloads available via Potent Funk. Read the rest of this entry »

Another gem from Dabbla’s Death Moves album, as he unveils the new video for Same Old Me. The track is produced by HashFinger and the video was made by Spin City Visuals. Death Moves is out now on Potent Funk.

There are a few forthcoming releases to be excited about in 2019, but one that should be near the top of all your lists is the long-awaited solo album from Baileys Brown. He’s found himself a new label home in the form of Potent Funk, one that suits his sound exceptionally well, in my opinion. The first taste of what’s in store was delivered over Christmas, with the lead single, Horses Mouth.
The track features two of Brown’s long-term collaborators, Datkid and Jinxsta JX, as well as a video from one of Bristol’s finest, Chris Lucas. The album, Still Fresh, is coming soon with a hefty list of features from Stinkin Slumrok, Black Josh, Bil Next, Axel Holy, Juga-Naut, Wish, Vard, Ly, Jordan Nathaniel, Anbu, Hozay, Bogues, Conz and Jay0117.
