A new drop for an old track here, as Potent Funk dust off one of their most cherished releases in the form of Problem Child’s 730 EP. The EP was recently given the remastering treatment and released back into a world very much in need of its anarchic energy and zero bullshit pedigree. For those unfamiliar, Problem Child was originally made up of Dabbla, Dubbledge and Sumgii, before Illaman joined their ranks not long after. They still exist under the updated moniker, Still A Problem, and I think we are due some new music soon, which would help explain the rejuvenated EP we’ve been blessed with. Check out the video for Me above and then head here to check the rest of the project.
News from the Potent Funk camp, as they announce a fresh arrival on their roster. GEAR is an MC and producer, hailing from Dallas, Texas, who’s brand of rap is the perfect fit for the hybrid sound that PF have cultivated and championed since their inception. TYPE-0 is GEAR’S first single and it’s available to stream now.
Fresh visual stimulation from the Potent Funk family, as Dabbla and Sumgii reveal the latest video from their recent Nobody LP. Once again, it’s This & That Media who are the brains behind the video, which features cameos from a selection of perhaps familiar faces, including Jester Jacobs and Alenee Aisha. Nobody is out now on all the usual platforms, with physicals available via Potent Funk.
New cut from the Potent Funk camp, as Bristol duo, DEDW8, team up with London production force, OPUS, for this grimy banger. The video was made by Max Kelan Pearce Productions. Indigo is available now from all the usual spots.
New visual antics from Dabbla and Sumgii, as they celebrate the release of their new album with a fresh video. Nobody is the titular track, as well as the opener, and as you will hear the duo kick things off with a bass-heavy bang. I’ve got a proper review coming in The Wire next month, but just know that for my money this is Dabbla’s strongest work to date, and when he’s alongside a producer he knows that well and the producer is as talented as Sumgii is, then you’re already looking at a recipe for success, which is easily surpassed on Nobody. The tense, bloodthirsty visuals come courtesy of This & That Media. Nobody is out now on Potent Funk and you can stream it in full below. Pleased to see the return of Benofficial to the blog, as he unveils the lead single from his new EP. Still From The Sauce sees the Potent Funk MC reconnecting with producer, Prozac, who remains at the helm for the whole project. You can check out the video for Ranch above and you can hear the rest of the EP below. Continue reading “Benofficial x Prozac: Ranch + EP Stream”
If you go down to the woods today, you might stumble upon some strange scenes, as Dabbla unveils the lead single from his forthcoming collab with Sumgii. Having known each other for years and worked on music together for almost as long, these are two artists who would find it virtually impossible to put out a dud on their solo efforts, let alone when they join forces like this. Shimmy is a good intro to their twisted, glitchy world, accompanied by some acid-tinged visuals with Dabbla channelling the spirit of the good Dr Gonzo. The video was made by This & That Media. Nobody is due for release next month on Potent Funk.
Dabbla kicks off his year with a new video, taken from his acclaimed 2018 album, Death Moves. The video sees Dabbla channeling his inner sensei, as he delivers some typically intricate wordplay over some tight production from Don Piper. The video was made by Spin City Visuals. Death Moves is out now on Potent Funk. Continue reading “Dabbla: Legs to a Snake”
As the temperature starts to drop and the evenings get darker, it’s best to have a good source of heat at hand to stave off the winter woes. Thankfully Frosty just released his new mixtape and it’s packed full of enough flames to melt what little is left of the Arctic.
Baileys Brown keeps us hooked with another new video from his recent Still Fresh LP. Swim sees the Bristol producer teaming up with fellow SW rap aficionados and regular collaborators, Datkid, Jinxsta JX and Hozay, all rounded off with a slick video from Don Wavey. The album is out now on Potent Funk.
