I was very pleased to see the news that Jman had recently joined the High Focus roster. He’s been on my radar for a long time and regular visitors to the blog will know that I’ve been pushing his various musical guises for years, whether it’s his ragga-rap crossover releases with Illinformed, or his work with the likes of DJ Vadim and The Mouse Outfit. Now he’s bringing another dimension to his music, thanks to the formation of The Argonautz.
I don’t have much information on them at the moment, but they appear to be a live band if this first video is anything to go by. Lonely jazz keys allow Jman’s introspective vocals to be the main focus, before the drums drop and the full track comes to life. It ends with a burst of instrumentation from the band. Apparently the group also features Maddy on vocals, who is another superb addition to the lineup (and another artist I’ve been championing for years).
No release date for the album yet, but in the meantime you can make the most of the video for Dying Breed, which was made by Parallel Media.

Verb T: Undivided
What better way to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Verb T’s acclaimed Morning Process LP, with a brand new track from the veteran artist. High Focus recently released an extended anniversary edition of the album, which features – among other gems – a freshly self-produced song called Undivided. There is also a sunflower laden video to accompany the song, courtesy of regular collaborator, Parallel Media. The new version of Morning Process is available now.

Another new dose of visual bliss from Verbz & Mr Slipz, as the hype for their forthcoming album continues to build. My Wonders also features fellow label-mate, Fliptrix, as well as video from Parallel Media, which uses a colour palette that Outkast would be proud of. After a couple of tantalising clips and videos, Verbz and Mr Slipz are ready to deliver their official High Focus debut LP. Today sees the release of the lead single from the album, with Verbz and Slipz proving exactly why their creative partnership is so much in demand. As well as the neck-snapping drum-driven production from Slipz, there are also some tasty cuts from Tom Yum and the video was made by Parallel Media. Keep an eye out for a couple of cameos too. Mungo’s Hi Fi x Eva Lazarus Ft. Kiko Bun: Light As A Feather
Next up is the final single from this year’s formidable collaboration, between legendary sound system collective, Mungo’s Hi Fi, and all-round vocal powerhouse, Eva Lazarus. Light As A Feather also features rising rudeboy star, Kiko Bun, who appears in the yellow-drenched video in puppet form. Datkid x Skinzmann: Get Back
If you caught the recent Skinzmann project then you will probably already be familiar with this grimy banger, featuring one of Bristol’s finest, Datkid. And today the video for Get Out was unveiled, which only adds to its impact. The video was made by Parallel Media and the track can be found on Incognito Grinders.
