Very happy to see Benny Diction return with a new solo project. I’m pretty sure Facepalm / Brainwave? is the Corners MC’s first solo effort since his Able8 produced, Oak Dreams EP, which he released in 2019. This time round he has gathered together an assortment of producers and guest stars to assist, resulting in a very well crafted album. Production credits include regular collaborators, Oliver Sudden and Deeflux, as well as beats from the likes of Tom Caruana, Krang and some self-produced cuts too. The features include some more familiar names, with Mnsr Frites and Beit Nun both making appearances, alongside cuts with Doberman, EF Knows and Eliza. You can stream the album below, then head to Boom Bap Pro to grab a download.Continue reading “Benny Diction: Facepalm / Brainwave? (Stream)”
New music from the Revorg camp, as Oliver Sudden and Downstroke put the wheels in motion for their upcoming EP release. Stylin’ is the lead single from the project and features Sudden delivering an ode to looking fly, with Downstroke’s production giving it the classic feel it deserves thanks to some tight drum loops and precision cuts. The Stylin’ 2020 EP is due for release on 13 March.
To coincide with the release of the Breaking Bad film sequel, El Camino, Strange Neighbour is dropping a remix version of his 2014 Heisenberg EP. It looks set to be a strong selection judging by the first leak – a reworking of the Let’s Fly posse cut, from the legendary Chemo. The track features a great line-up, with Bristol sons Datkid and Sirplus, joining forces with Jack Diggs and Oliver Sudden, all backed up with some expert cuts from Sammy B-Side. The full project is due for release at the end of the month on Revorg Records.
Revorg Records back at it with another project on the horizon, as Strange Neighbour and Big Toast combine to form Tuff Boyz. As the name might suggest and if you’re familiar with their usual approach, this is not for people who take themselves too seriously, but don’t write it off as comedy rap as the skill levels are still high. Excellent production from Oliver Sudden as usual. Their album, Bat Night, is due for release soon.
Finally, after 12 years of planning and brewing, the new album from Mister and Curt Cataract has been given life. What began as a series of friendly music related exchanges on MySpace, has now evolved into a fantastic full-length project, stretching across the breadth of the Atlantic. I already shared one of the tracks from the album last month, the excellent title track featuring Hemlock Ernst and I am pleased to confirm that the rest of the album follows in the same vein. As well as the stellar appearance from Ernst, there are also equally strong features from the likes of Chris Orrick, MysDiggi and Oliver Sudden. Cataract’s beats are sublime throughout and in Mister he appears to have found the ideal voice for his production. The album is available to stream in full below and there are plenty of physicals to cop over on Bandcamp, including a vinyl edition.
New one-off track from Phyba and the Cronx Don himself, Oliver Sudden, as the duo deliver Isotonic Water. Continue reading “Phyba x Oliver Sudden: Isotonic Water”
Having got our hunger pangs raging with a couple of leaked tracks, last Friday saw the release of the full album from Scran Cartel aka MNSR Frites and Benny Diction. As well as their own ample skills, the two MCs have also drafted in a wealth of talent to assist with the album, including features from Oliver Sudden, Tony Skank and Juga-Naut, as well as production credits from the likes of Krang, Chemo and Morriarchi. The album is available to stream in full below and downloads are available on Bandcamp. Continue reading “Scran Cartel: Blue Plaque Candidates (Stream)”
Another day and another supergroup, as Revorg Records’ Gatecrasherz unleash their debut LP on the world. The five man crew is comprised of Downstroke, Gee Bag, Oliver Sudden, Jack Diggs and Big Toast, so we know the quality is going to be high and we have already had a couple of tasters, thanks to their lead singles, Say Rah and 2-3 Break. Continue reading “Gatecrasherz: Uninvited”
A great debut from a great group of established MCs, who have come together to form something of a UK supergroup. Beit Nun, Benny Diction and Deeflux have all been familiar names on the scene for years and have made some classic tracks as their own entities, but Corners may be their best work yet, as the combined power of the three creates something a little bit special. New music from the Revorg Records camp, as Gatecrasherz release their latest video. The crew are set to release their debut album in the not too distant future and judging by the tasters they’ve given us so far, it’s going to be a strong project. More news on that coming soon.
