phiik x duro: Chainlink (Stream)

New music to savour from phiik, thanks to a fresh collaboration with Duro which landed today. Plenty of intricate rhymes to wade through, all delivered with a precision flow that manages to pack a punch into every bar without ever sounding overdone. Duro’s production is as equally compelling throughout, creating the perfect balance for phiik’s energy on the mic. Decent features too, thanks to verses from AKAI SOLO, Obijuan and Lungs. The EP is available to sample below, with downloads found over on Bandcamp.

Sleep Sinatra x Ohbliv: Shadow Self (Stream)

New material from Sleep Sinatra on rotation, as he connects with Mutant Academy representative, Ohbliv, for their long-awaited Shadow Self LP. Predominantly a solo vocal affair, where Sinatra continues to outline himself as one of the more dedicated rappers of the era, there are also some notable guests.
These include the recently featured Archibald Slim, who is celebrating his own album release this week, as well as Aakeem Eshu, Obijuan, Flannel Lewis, and Bruiser Brigade favourite, J.U.S. Check out the stream of Shadow Self below and then head over to Bandcamp to grab a download or physical copy, and peruse the rest of Sinatra’s back catalogue while you’re there if you’re not familiar. Essential sounds.

Lee Scott: Somewhere Between Here and There (Stream)

Continuing with the element of surprise, today sees the release of the latest album from Lee Scott, which was recently announced unexpected. Somewhere Between Here and There is worthy of consideration for your end of year lists, with Lee on fine form both behind the mic and behind the boards. His self-produced tracks are often among the highlights of his releases and this latest project is no exception, with tracks like An Ear For Violence, lingering in your mind after they end. That particular song hears Lee recollecting two dark events from his past and is in my opinion, one of his strongest tracks to date. Features on the LP come from BeTheGun, Milkavelli, King Grubb, Obijuan and looms., plus there is production from Lee, Wholesome Fun, Dylantheinfamous, Bisk and Kiyani. You can listen to the album below and a limited edition vinyl version is available via Blah. There is also a video for the Bisk helmed, Table, which you can watch below. Obijuan x GRIMM Doza: Layin Low

The Bad Taste roster recently gained some extra muscle, as they announced the imminent arrival of a new project from Bahamian rapper, Obijuan. The internationally roaming artist has teamed up with GRIMM Doza for Layin Low, a simple but effective, stripped back track which provides some useful insight into the rapper’s appeal. Obijuan’s latest album, The King’s Wishes, is due for release on 20 November.
