TheDeadCanRap is a newly formed duo who announced their arrival this week, with the unveiling of the lead single from their debut album. Comprised of art rap favourite, Mike Ladd, and British abstract artist, Remi Rough, TheDeadCanRap aim to create art that encapsulates both their worlds in one left-field amalgamation. As well as the forthcoming album, there will also be an accompanying art-book, which you can find more info on via their Bandcamp page. The lead single, Imitations, also features fellow art rap advocate, Open Mike Eagle, while the rest of the project boasts appearances from Malik Ameer of Madison Washington and Nosaj of New Kingdom. You can hear Imitations below and then the full album is due for release on 11 December, via Def Pressé.
A raucous new project here from Steel Tipped Dove and pioneering 90’s psych rap advocate, Nosaj, of New Kingdom fame. Together they have knocked up a very wild and enjoyable EP. Nosaj’s energy on the mic is akin to the energy you get from punk singers and in fact his whole approach to rapping is pretty anarchic, in the best way possible.
I spoke to Steel Tipped Dove about how the project came about and he told me that it was a spontaneous collaboration, sparked by an introduction from a mutual friend. Dove played Nosaj some beats, which he described as “heavy handed industrial weird beats”, and they were a perfect fit for his unruly style. The fact they both lived close to each other helped push things along and within three days, they had come up with four strong tracks. They were so keen to get the music out into the world that they eschewed the idea of approaching labels and perhaps waiting for labels to find them instead. Based on the strength of this opening gambit, that seems highly likely. With more tracks already done and dusted, and a creative partnership that seems like the perfect match, I am hoping to hear a lot more from these two. You can stream the EP below and you can grab a download on Bandcamp. Continue reading “Nosaj x Steel Tipped Dove: NOWNOWNOW (Stream)”
