I already explained the reasons for my hype about the forthcoming Career Crooks album, from Zilla Rocca & Small Pro; a project that has been anticipated by fans of the duo since they started talking it up many moons ago. Now the time is nearly upon us, but in the meantime they have only gone and released a whole other EP for us to enjoy while these last few days pass by. Read the rest of this entry »

Always a pleasure to see an album you’ve been waiting for finally make it to the masses. Zilla Rocca and Small Professor have been building the hotly anticipated Career Crooks album for a while now and the hype has been deservedly building throughout. We know they both have form for creating strong music, so this was always going to be a good album, but now we have the first actual proof. Read the rest of this entry »

South Philly MC, Zilla Rocca, returns with a new single, inspired by the noir detective novels he is so fond of. It’s actually one novel in particular – The Song is You by Megan Abbott – and deals with that staple of all murky stories: the femme fatale. Produced by Schadillac and featuring backing vocals from El Malito & Margel the Sophant, Lemon Drop is available to stream below. Read the rest of this entry »

Zilla Rocca dropped this new track the other day, as a homage to the Five Percenter style of rap he came up with when he was starting out as an MC. The Wrecking Crew affiliate uses an old Son Raw beat he’s had stashed away for a few years and smashes it in his usual style. You can stream ’98 Avirex Flow below. Read the rest of this entry »

Following on from the excellent interview with Zilla Rocca I posted yesterday, thought it only right to hit you with another one of his remixes.
This time it’s for the 2014 track Chi-Town Drumroll, which was originally included on the No Vacation For Murder LP and features none other than Camp-Lo legend, Geechi Suede. Read the rest of this entry »

Zilla Rocca has been steadily producing solid rap records for a decade and is the man behind the original Noir Hop sound. I got the chance to chat to him about rap, the Golden Era and Buddhism, among other things. Read the rest of this entry »

Yesterday saw the release of the next single from Words Hurt’s upcoming album, Fuck That Pretty Boy Shit. I Love People sees rapper Alaska and producer Lang Vo, team up with one of my favourite MCs at the minute, Red Pill. They’ve also thrown in a dope Zilla Rocca remix, with his noir hop style giving a whole new feel to the track. Get yourselves over to Bandcamp to cop the tracks and watch out for the album coming to your ears in the near future.

The Wrecking Crew’s Zilla Rocca and Small Professor have been collaborating over the best part of a decade, featuring on a number of releases from Wu-Tang Pulp to the Party With Villains EP. Now they have put their combined forces together so you can find all their dusty gems in one handy spot.
Sin Will Find You is a compilation of 18 tracks from the duo, featuring a lot of the usual suspects, Has-Lo, Curly Castro and Elucid, to name a few. The release is available from Bandcamp now and its name your price if you’re feeling generous.

zillaCan’t fault the new project Zilla Rocca has released, as he takes on some of the best rap to come out of the Queensbridge area and gives them all the remix treatment. As a founder/pioneer of noir hop, you know what to expect from these tracks and I am happy to say there is not a single note of disappointment on there. Read the rest of this entry »

Last week saw the release of the new video from Zilla Rocca & The Shadowboxers’ excellent album, No Vacation For Murder. Featuring Open Mike Eagle and Curly Castro, Human Dominos is a fine example of the noir hop subgenre Rocca has cultivated, since his 2009 release The Slow Twilight. No Vacation For Murder is available to purchase over at
