New single from Benaddict, which emerged last week. Shades Of You features joint production from FloFilz and Psalm Trees aka Benaddict’s production alter ego. There is also a B-side called Just Write, which is solely produced by Psalm Trees. As well as the digital version, the Yogocop MC has also pressed a single 10″ vinyl copy which he is currently auctioning off on his Facebook page. The money raised will go to Mind. I’ve had my fair share of mental health problems over the years and still have issues with certain things. I also know how hard it is to ask for help. Loads has been done over the past few years, to help break down the various stigma that are associated with MH issues.
Organisations like Rethink and Time to Change have worked tirelessly to try to change the perceptions of not just the general public, but also the ones suffering. Mind are another organisation who have been fighting the good fight for years and have actually helped me personally on a number of occasions. That’s why I was so happy to see that a night had been organised with the aim of continuing to raise awareness about mental health issues and also getting some much needed cash into Mind’s coffers. The highly anticipated album from Elliot Fresh and Fish finally arrived earlier in the month and unsurprisingly, it was very much worth the wait. Sadly Fish passed away before the album was released, but that loss turned this into more than just another UK hip hop album. Aesop Rock is my favourite rapper for a number of reasons, including his transparency about his struggle with mental illness.
First time I heard One of Four on the Daylight EP, I was blown away but the honesty and also by how he managed to turn psychological trauma into a decent rap topic.
