Detroit’s Boldy James is back with a new video, for a track lifted from his latest EP. The EP is being billed as most personal material yet and deals with his hiatus away from the mic, following his 2015 album release. The Art of Rock Climbing EP is out now.
Not only did yesterday produce a new RTJ single, it also finally gave us a release date for the long awaited third instalment from the duo. Legend Has It is probably my favourite of the leaks we’ve been treated to so far and the news that the album with feature heads like Danny Brown and Kamasi Washington, just makes the hype almost unbearable at this point. The official release date is now 3 January 2017, with more info here.
I never really want to get too political on here, plus I think at this point we have all made our thoughts about this new realm of fear we seem to be entering pretty clear. None more so than Run the Jewels, who last night released a new song called 2100, featuring their friend and collaborator Boots. The sentiment is as strong as ever, as you will hear below. So Adult Swim just casually dropped off the first single from the forthcoming third installment from Run The Jewels. The rumour mill has been putting in work over recent weeks, as people try to guess when the album will actually see the light of day. Well now we are all one step closer to the fact. Have a listen to Talk To Me below and cop a free download over at the Adult Swim site. Continue reading “Run The Jewels: Talk To Me”
The audio for this track has been doing the rounds for a while now, but earlier today Mass Appeal revealed the new video and it’s a cracker. Featuring old white dudes lip-syncing, a mass brawl and even a piglet, plus appearances from the trio themselves, this is the perfect visual accompaniment for an already excellent track. DJ Shadow’s latest album, The Mountain Will Fall, is out now.
One of the more formidable collaborations to happen this year is the Run the Jewels feature on the forthcoming DJ Shadow album. I can’t think of any time in the past that these two worlds have met – except maybe the Latyrx and El-P joint – but as soon as you hear them together, you wonder why its taken so long. This track featuring the killer combo of Dilla and Nas on a Madlib beat, was doing the rounds a few weeks ago, but now the good folks at Mass Appeal have given it the video treatment too. The Sickness is a bonus track lifted from Dilla’s latest posthumous release The Diary, which is available to buy on iTunes now.
For some reason this had passed me by when it was released a few weeks ago, despite it being one of my favourite songs on the excellent Rubble Kings soundtrack. Released on Mass Appeal and featuring exclusive tracks from the likes of Ka, Run the Jewels and Mr MFN eXquire, as well as a whole heap of flawless original scoring from Little Shalimar, you really have no excuses not to add the album to your collection. This particular gem, Phoenix, comes courtesy of Little Shalimar and vocalists Roxiny and Tunde Adebimpe.
