Andre 3000 & Madlib: Otis Benjamin (Stream)

As far as mash-ups go, this is one of the ones that you thought would already have been given life by now, judging by how popular the two main players are. The geniuses over at Altered Crates have blended some of Andre 3000’s best features, with a selection of Madlib’s forever on point instrumentals, resulting in Otis Benjamin. The speculation over Andre’s solo project is likely to continue for a while, but in the meantime this release will do nicely. You can stream it below and downloads are available via Bandcamp.

Mobb Marley: Mobb Marley (Stream)

Continuing the mash up theme with this new release from the capital, as the two worlds of gangsta rap and roots regae collide. Mobb Marley fuses together the notoriously rough and rugged lyrics from QB’s finest, Mobb Deep, with the infectious rhythms of Bob Marley’s reggae instrumentals. The project was put together by Large Gary AKA Gi3MO of Rum Committee fame. If it sounds like a unlikely pairing, it is, but that’s not to say it doesn’t work. There are some great moments on there and the overall vibe that the juxtaposition creates is well worth exploring. The project is available to download for free via Bandcamp and you can also stream it below. Continue reading “Mobb Marley: Mobb Marley (Stream)”

Tom Caruana: Inner Space (Stream)

The mash up master, Tom Caruana, returns with another incredible project as he continues to blend areas of music that would otherwise remain perfect strangers. Seanh: Sadevillain

sade

This could be one of the greatest musical mash ups of all time, as Seanh brings together the unlikely pairing of sweet soul lyricist Sade and rap architect MF DOOM. Sadevillain is a mixtape put together by the 18 year old British producer and the result is pretty special. I won’t say too much, but I think you will find yourselves digging this a lot.
