Brand new video from Lee Scott and Jam Baxter, as they kick of the official release of their album, Happy Hour At The Super Fun Time Party Dome Megamix 4000. When Lee first sent me the LP a few months ago, he did so with the warning that it was weird. I like weird, was my reply. And while it might not be your run of the mill rap album, it definitely remains on the right side of weird, complete with drunk style crooning from Lee. It features production from loads of great names, including Sumgii, Drae Da Skimask, GhostTown, Dirty Dike and Jack Jetson, plus there are guest spots from the likes of Jetson, Stinkin Slumrok, Milkavelli, Trellion and Lyza Jane. The whole thing can be heard below and you can see the video for the Dike produced, Who’s Ur M8, above. It was made by Slim Parisoo. Vinyl copies of the album are available over at the Blah store. Lyza Jane: Interview
Lyza Jane is a London-based vocalist who has been blessing us with her own distinct style and sound for the past few years. She first came to my attention thanks to her affiliation with Blah Records, including a triumphant collaborative EP with Sniff last year. Lyza has also just released her debut solo album and so I thought now would be a good time to have a chat with her about the new project, her musical heritage and her plans for the future (spoiler: they might involve a lot of wine). Lyza Jane: Housebound (Stream)
Next up we’ve got the debut album from Lyza Jane, which follows on from a string of singles and an EP with Sniff, which was one of last year’s highlights. I find it hard to pinpoint exactly what genres Lyza’s music fits into, as there are a lot of different influences at work, but hip hop definitely plays a big part in her inspiration. Housebound features appearances from Lee Scott, Black Josh and Danny Lover, with beats from Lee, Sniff and Lyza, who handles the majority of the production herself. You can hear the album in full below, with physicals and merch available via Bandcamp. Stay tuned for an interview with Lyza coming soon. Continue reading “Lyza Jane: Housebound (Stream)”
Lyza Jane ft. Lee Scott: Indigo (Video)
On the eve of her album release, Lyza Jane gifts us a fresh visual for the Indigo track which surfaced last week. The track features Lee Scott, both on vocals and production, and it is lifted from Housebound, which you can pre-order via Bandcamp.
Lyza Jane ft. Lee Scott: Indigo
Start your week off the right way with the latest single from Blah vocalist, Lyza Jane. Indigo is the perfect vehicle for her soft touch vocals, thanks in part to Lee Scott’s production, who also drops in his own contribution on the mic. The single is the first single from Lyza’s upcoming Housebound album, which features a host of Blah talent including Black Josh and Danny Lover. Pre-orders are available now. King Grubb: Droopy (Stream)
I’ve already shared a couple of tracks from the recently released debut solo album from King Grubb, but based on the strength of the entire project, I thought it only right you should experience it in its full glory.
Grubb is one of a few Blah OG artists who while maybe not as prevalent or prolific as their fellow cult members, no doubt have a dedicated fan base; a fan base who have been thirsting for a proper solo venture since the early COTD days. Luckily Droopy provides us with just that, with Grubb’s relaxed demeanour sparking seemingly effortless runs of wordplay. Continue reading “King Grubb: Droopy (Stream)”
Sniff x Lyza Jane: Blue Sunday
Really strong lead single from the new Sniff and Lyza Jane EP. Blue Sunday juxtaposes Lyza’s ethereal vocal style – which wouldn’t sound out of place on a David Lynch soundtrack – with Sniff’s trademark monotone flows, resulting in a bluesy track laden with depth and feeling. A promising start to the full project. The Baby Blue Champion EP is out now on Blah Records. The video was shot by AboveGround.
Lee Scott: Oh, The Fun We’re All Having
Surprise release from Lee Scott, as he sneaks out Oh, The Fun We’re All Having – probably just one of 1,700 projects he’s sitting on right now. The EP stands at six tracks long, including the previously released, What If Lee Was a Lil Rapper… joint. Production comes from Lee, Nobodies Home, Sniff and DEW8. There are also a few features from Sniff, Black Josh, Lyza Jane and Jazz T. You can stream the EP below, with downloads available via Bandcamp. Lyza Jane ft. Bisk: Easy
Great song from Lyza Jane, as she brings her blissed out, air-like vocals to Easy. Production is handled by Formz, with a nice little guest spot from Bisk. The track is lifted from Lyza’s recent EP, Nobody But You, which features appearances from Milkavelli, Nah Eeto and Jam Baxter.
