Lord Apex & Drae Da Skimask: The Elevated and Elusive (Stream)

Top tier link up here, as Lord Apex joins forces with the forever on point, Drae Da Skimask, for The Elevated and Elusive. Apparently the tracks were recorded over a span of five years, which Apex says should answer some questions about his whereabouts. You can sample some of the tracks below, with ‘name your price’ downloads available via Bandcamp.

Slim’s Pickings 2022 Pt. 2

Following on from last week’s continued roundup of some of my favourite releases from 2022, I’m back with what I thought was going to be my final selection. The original plan was to cover 30 EPs and albums, but as time has gone on my mind has decided to trigger more musical memories from the year. Add to that the fact that the last breaths of 2022 brought us a few more releases and I realise now that I could easily do a top 40 (shout out to 80’s Sunday evenings on Radio One). So without further ado, here are my next ten choices, and as usual they arrive in no particular order beyond the sequence my memory brought them to the surface. The third and final instalment will follow shortly.

You can hear a selection of tracks below, with downloads and physicals available via Bandcamp.

Sonnyjim & Buckwild ft. Lord Apex: The Process

Cross generational goodness here, as Sonnyjim and Buckwild release another gem from the stash of their recent LP. The Process sees the transatlantic duo teaming up with one of the most prominent voices of the next wave of UK talent, thanks to a typically tight feature from Lord Apex. The track is lifted from Coke Le Roc, which is out now via all the usual spots.

Pitch 92 ft. Kiko Bun, Lord Apex & Jehst: Good With Me

Pitch 92 is one of the collaboration kings, go check his 3rd Culture album for further proof. In the meantime though, get stuck into his latest single, which sees its release today and features yet another hefty guest list. Lord Apex, Jehst and Kiko Bun all bring their A game to the proceedings, with Pitch’s production verging into future funk & soul territory. The track is out now on High Focus and there is a limited 7″ vinyl edition available, which also includes Pitch’s previous single, Suttin’ In The Trunk.

Pitch 92 ft. Lord Apex: Suttin’ In The Trunk

Pitch 92 is back with a bang, as he unveils his latest single. It’s the first new music we have heard from the High Focus producer since the arrival of his Question of Time album, which he released alongside Verb T last year. High Focus have been recently hinting that Pitch had been busy in the lab and now the fruits of his labour are being given life, starting off with Suttin’ In The Trunk, which features a tight guest appearance from Lord Apex. No word on an album yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t least get to hear more new bits from Pitch very soon.

GROUP ft. Lord Apex: Everything I Know

New music from the Blah camp, as GROUP announce their arrival with the release of their debut single, Everything I Know. No official info about the crew has been released yet, other than the fact that the track is produced by Jack Chard, but you will probably recognise the other members when you hear them. Everything I Know also features a slick verse from Lord Apex. This is the first single from GROUP’s forthcoming vinyl release, 1. More news on all that coming soon.
