The Four Owls unveil the next single from their recently released Nocturnal Instinct LP, with yet another heavyweight US name on the assist. On Pioneer, the High Focus quartet have enlisted the might of Kool G Rap, who delivers a typically blistering verse. The track is produced by Leaf Dog. Nocturnal Instinct is out now.
Very nice project here from producer, Dixon Hill, as he connects with Detroit legend, Guilty Simpson, for Actus Reus. Weighing in at seven tracks, it gives us a good glimpse at the levels the rising beat-maker is reaching with his production and Simpson’s pen game rolls in as gritty as ever. In fact the juxtaposition between the weight behind the lyrics and the sometime jazz-heavy production, works very well, in particular on the Lil Fame and Kool G Rap assisted, Bat’Leth. You can hear the full EP below and you can cop a download, including instrumental versions of all the tracks, over on Bandcamp.
Was happy to see the release of the new album from DJ Muggs, following on from his recent successes with DOOM and Meyhem Lauren. Even more pleased to be able to report that the project is another triumph. Muggs has always been a much-respected producer, with artists like Madlib citing him as a huge influence on their sound. And with good reason, as Dia Del Asesinato demonstrates. The list of features is testament to the esteem Muggs is held in by the scene as well, with MCs like Raekwon, Mach-Hommy, Hus Kingpin and DOOM all bringing their A-game to the project. The album is available to stream below and you can also buy it via Soul Assassins.
We were recently gifted two new tracks from the long-awaited union between DJ Muggs and DOOM, after teasing us with talk of a collaboration at the end of 2017. The two track release features Freddie Gibbs, who jumped on Death Wish and now we have the veteran MC, Kool G Rap, who lends his infamous flows to Assassination Day. You can listen to the audio for the track above and I’m sure a video will follow shortly. The project is out now on Soul Assassins.

That was until a couple of weeks ago when a few promo shots appeared online claiming that the release was scheduled for the following week. Then on Friday, along with projects from Westside Gunn and Freddie Gibbs, we saw the release of two new singles from the duo. Continue reading “DJ Muggs & DOOM ft. Freddie Gibbs: Death Wish”
