Sticking with the High Focus camp, another loosie popped up this week, thanks to Verbz’s latest offering. Calling Me Back features a fresh collaboration with the ever-prolific, Illinformed, and yet another slick video from Honey JD (that’s three in a row). Streams and downloads are available here.
The crud is thick on this new release from Datkid, which sees him teaming up with Illinformed for a double whammy of unadulterated street stories. The mini-movie that accompanies the tracks was made by Honey JD. Fat Lip and One Way or Another are both available now via High Focus.

Brand new video from Verb T and Illinformed, as they continue to build the anticipation for their latest collaboration. Nothing Is New was filmed on location in Bristol and features a bunch of cameos from some familiar faces (including me). Brand new video from Verb T and Illinformed, as they continue to set the mood for their new album. It’s been five years since their first collaboration was brought into this world, an album which still sits proudly in both their back catalogues, leading to a lot of justified anticipation for their sophomore effort. The video for New Paths was made by Honey JD. No news on a release date yet, but stay tuned.
Ever wondered what it would be like if Aardman ditched the kids TV angle and decided to take up arms in the eternal battle against law enforcement? Well look no further than the latest video from Babylon Dead, where they bring claymation vibes to their usual brand of anti-authoritarian ragga rap. The Underworld is the third single from their sophomore album, Book of the Dead, which is due for release on 4 September. The video was made by Chris Younes.
Fans of Verb T and Illinformed’s 2015 collaboration, The Man With The Foggy Eyes, will no doubt be pleased to hear that they have a new project on the way. Rotten Luck is our first taster and the duo seem to have lost none of the combined mite that made them a firm favourite after their last album was given life. The video was made by Honey JD. More news on the album soon.
Babylon Dead continue to flex their anti-authoritarian muscle with the next single from their forthcoming album. The much anticipated Book of the Dead is due for release on 4 September, along with an accompanying graphic novel which has been exclusively created by Greg Blackman. Resistance is another rabble rousing anthem, with Jman’s energising flows tearing through Illinformed’s latest brooding bassline. The video was made by Badger. Pre-orders for the album are live on Bandcamp.
A very welcome and much needed return by Babylon Dead, as they bless us with the first single from their long-awaited second album. It’s been three years since Jman and Illinformed burst onto the scene with their refreshing brand of ragga-hip hop, tearing up stages and people’s preconceptions in the process. Now they’re back with Book of the Dead, an ambitious project which also features an accompanying graphic novel, courtesy of Greg Blackman. The first single, Nineteen84, saw its release today so go and absorb that, then get over to Bandcamp to secure your pre-order. Trust me, this is an essential one. The video for Nineteen84 was made by Rogue Ethic. The album is due for release on 4 September on RLD Records.
A fresh release to bless the start of your week, as Sonnyjim hits us with another new album, this time teaming up with UK boom bap aficionado, Illinformed. The Chemistry Must Be Respected sees its full release today and is comprised of the sort of luxurious monotone raps, which we’ve been accustomed to from the Brum native over the last few years, as well as that soul-laced nod-inducing production that Illinformed has down to a fine art, but with a definite Sonny flair as he joins on the assist. There is support too, with Sony hooking up a smooth verse from Hus Kingpin on Diamonds & Carrots, while Leaf Dog steps up to the plate on Golden Gates, and Jehst does a masterful turn on Zircon. The full thing can be heard below, with downloads available via Bandcamp. Continue reading “Sonnyjim x Illinformed: The Chemistry Must Be Respected (Stream)”
