A very enjoyable new video here from Run The Jewels, thanks to a collaboration with Adult Swim, which sees the duo transformed into their animated forms. They are pursued by mechanized Nazi cops, eventually leading to a bloody showdown in a convenience store. The animation was done by Titmouse and the video was directed by Sean Solomon. RTJ4 is out now.
Another perfectly crafted lampooning session here from Big Toast and 184, as they release the next video from their new album. This time it’s capitalism’s cheerleaders who are in the firing line, the sort of high-end brand junkies who judge everything by its expense or worth, including you and your miserable existence. Who Shit in the Sandpit? was released in full last week and is now available to download/stream via Revorg Records. Plenty of physicals available too.
As the cold winds start to blow, Junclassic delivers some much needed heat, as he unites with Reckonize Real for The Hope Business. According to Jun, the album is the culmination of a concept that has been simmering in his mind for two decades, ever since Only in America – the Don King biopic – created a spark of inspiration. It’s a look at the idea of hope as both a force for good and for evil, depending on who is offering it and to whom. Something that is very relevant in today’s populist political climate. New serving of visual excellence from Shrapknel, as they unveil their latest video for Gun Metal Paint. The track is taken from their self-titled album, which saw its release back in March, and features a solid guest spot from Zilla Rocca. The track was produced by ELUCID and the video was made by Owen Taylor. The album is out now on Backwoodz Studioz.
Brand new video from Verb T and Illinformed, as they continue to build the anticipation for their latest collaboration. Nothing Is New was filmed on location in Bristol and features a bunch of cameos from some familiar faces (including me). The track is taken from their forthcoming album, The Land of the Foggy Skies, which is due for release on 11 December via High Focus.

A new selection of beats from Small Professor, as he continues his run of instrumental releases with A Jawn Supreme Vol. 3. Partly inspired by the current global mood, while also serving as a glimmer of hope for the future, it’s another solid release from a producer who deserves your attention (and money). Justus is the latest single to be released by Fielded, coinciding with the release of her Backwoodz Studioz debut. I’ve got a full review coming in The Wire next month, but for now get stuck into this visually arousing film and familiarise yourselves with an artist whose name you’re going to be hearing a lot more of. The track also features billy woods and the video was made by Alice Millar and Lauryn Siegel. The album, Demisexual Lovelace, is out now on all the usual platforms.
For those of you unaware, Joey Deez was one of the co-founders of Village Live Records, alongside Doug Barclay (Remulak). He sadly passed away a few months back, which brought a lot of sorrow to the many people within the scene who were glad to call him a friend. As well as being a hip hop fiend and vinyl junkie, Joey was also a staple part of the Brighton skate and graff scenes, and so when his death was announced, the streets were inundated with tributes. Now Aver is back with his own tribute, an album he has made which draws on a lot of the inane conversations the two of them had over the years, and some of the newly discovered breaks they would send to each other. There are also bits of new music which Aver was working on during lockdown, with fellow Village Live affiliate, Doron Segal. It serves as both a personal memorial for those who knew Joey, as well as an introduction to those who might not have had the pleasure of making his acquaintance over the years. You can listen to the album in all its glory below, and then head to Bandcamp to check out details of the vinyl release, which includes images of the AROE tribute (as above), plus a huge piece that was painted at Brighton’s legendary Black Rock. All proceeds from the vinyl sale will be going to Joey’s family.
