A burst of hope and positivity here from The Four Owls, as they continue to deliver the gems from their latest album. Soulful boom bap and four accomplished rappers; what more do you want? Be Free is taken from Nocturnal Instinct, which is out now on High Focus. The video was made by This & That Media.
More heat from Coops as he returns with his latest single, Bring The Fire. Once again, it’s Talos on the beat, resulting in the usual blend of jazzy brilliance and solid rhymes. The video was made by Craig Capone. Bring The Fire is also available to stream and download at the usual places.
New single here from Coops, as he reunites with Talos for Laws Of Nature. It’s rare those two put a foot wrong when they work together and Laws Of Nature is no exception, ably backed up with another tight video from Craig Capone, whose kaleidoscopic visual is reminiscent of some earlier classics. The single is also available to stream on all the usual platforms.
Telemachus released his new album on Friday and to coincide with the drop, he also put out the next video from the project. This time round he has brought in Killa P, who brings his inimitable presence to the raw drum sounds on the production, before we reach the final leg which erupts into a very welcome flourish of drum & bass. The video was made by Cretan Brake. Boring & Weird Historical Music is out now on High Focus.
High Focus recently announced that they had further boosted their roster with the addition of Verbz and Mr Slipz. The London-Brighton duo released a superb album together back in 2018, filled with tasty jazz breaks and stellar penmanship, and this latest single is carrying on the same tradition. It also comes alongside a typically slick video from LOUDHOUSE. No news on the album yet, but stay tuned. Streams of Iron Grip are available at the usual spots.
Another big track from The Four Owls and their third album, which saw its release last month. The album is home to a lot of notable features from America’s selection of heavyweight lyricists, as you can see from this latest single which features underground favourite, R.A. The Rugged Man. A slight switch up on the production too, as Leaf Dog knocks up a pacier beat for the proceedings, leading to some incredible flows from the assembled MCs. The retro arcade game style video was created by The Astroknight. Nocturnal Instinct is out now on High Focus.
I forgot to post this when it dropped a couple of weeks ago, but always better late than never. You might remember that Mr Key released a follow-up to Kids Story not long ago, featuring joint production from Dike and Chemo. Well now the Contact Play MC has returned with a live version, performed from his base camp in Granada, Spain. As you will see in the footage, Key is ably assisted by Katryna Abel on keys and backing vocals, and Eliot Rivv on guitar. Mr Key and Greenwood Sharps’ latest project is out now on High Focus.
A nice little mix here from Telemachus, as he reveals more audible details from his much anticipated album. The compellingly titled, Boring and Weird Historical Music, is due for release next month and with the lead single already in existence, we can now sample some more of its delights. The visual accompaniment was created by Blake Dunlop. Pre-orders for the album are available now via High Focus.
To coincide with the release of their latest album, High Focus’s in-house supergroup have dropped another video from the project. Coming Home features some pacey, blues-tinged production from Leaf Dog, along with a nicely animated video from Mengyán Gém Gergő. The Owls’ third album, Nocturnal Instinct, is out now on High Focus.
The Four Owls release their long-awaited third album today and it stands as a testament to the success of High Focus, who reach their 10 year anniversary this year. There has never been an independent UK hip hop label that has achieved what HF have achieved since their inception in 2010, whether that’s in terms of impact, influence or breaking through the US barriers, Fliptrix, Molotov and all the artists involved have now built a brand that’s recognised across the globe. With this latest Four Owls venture, we are shown exactly how much clout they wield now, thanks to a string of features from some truly legendary US rappers, including Kool G Rap, R.A. The Rugged Man, Roc Marciano, and a SECOND collaboration with Preemo, something unheard of in itself on these shores. Production wise, Leaf seems as hungry as ever to continue to uphold his position as one of the UK’s best boom bap exporters, and he manages to keep the styles varied enough for it to not result in a head-nodding snooze fest. It’s basically the album that both the Owls and their fans deserve. A definite level up on the last album, but still peddling the same reliable brand of hip hop that has served them so well up to this point. You can hear the full thing for yourself below and there are plenty of other options available over at the High Focus shop. Continue reading “The Four Owls: Nocturnal Instinct (Stream)”
