As we get dangerously close to the release date for the new album from Datkid and Leaf Dog, yesterday saw the next single given life. Following on from the Conway laced, Eyes, this time we see Datty and Leaf bringing in Roc Marciano for the suitably gritty Scheme On. The video was made by Chris Lucas. Pre-orders for Confessions Of A Crud Lord are available now, with the release date set for 17 May on High Focus.

High Focus’s latest signing kick off their residency with a brand new video for Whatuplayin@. If you don’t know, CMPND consists of MCs Kemastry, Vitamin G and Wundrop, who also handles production. Whatuplayin@ is a grimy little intro to the crew and a good indicator of things to come. The video was made by This & That Media.

As anticipation grows for the new Datkid album, today saw the release of the second video from the project. Eyes features Griselda heavyweight, Conway, as well as a verse from the album’s sole producer, Leaf Dog. The video was made by This & That Media. Confessions Of A Crudlord is coming soon on High Focus.

Pitch 92 has already been responsible for one of UK hip hop’s highlights this year, thanks to his superb 3rd Culture album. The album features an expertly curated collection of artists, including fellow Manny resident, DRS, who appears on Makes No Sense. The video for the track was released today and was made by Tarnish Vision. 3rd Culture is out now on High Focus.

The intergalactic catlord, Onoe Caponoe, returned to our planet last week with a stellar new album, Surf Or Die. As ever, experimental is the word, as the High Focus MC delivers his usual brand of subversive and left field rap. His flows shift from controlled to frenetic over a broad selection of beats from a number of producers, including Chemo, Jae Genius, Lord Pusswhip and Onoe himself. The single feature comes on Chop Em Down from Caponoe favourite, L-Zee Roselli. Surf Or Die is available to stream below in all its strange glory, with physicals available via the High Focus store. Next month on 18 April, as is now customary in Bristol, High Focus will roll into town en masse to celebrate their 9th birthday. Following on from last year’s success, once again they will takeover the SWX nightclub which is situated bang in the middle of town and will bring with them a selection of the finest artists that their ever-increasing roster has to offer.
On the bill this year we have performances from The Four Owls, Jam Baxter, Coops, Onoe Caponoe, Ed Scissor, Strange U, Ronnie Bosh and Pitch 92 as well as their latest signing Datkid, plus loads more MCs and DJs to get the place jumping. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of reaching one of these events in the past, then you will know what to expect and that what to expect is something special.
As is also customary, I have the opportunity for one of you lucky so-and-sos to win free entry for you and a faithful companion on the night itself. All you have to do to win is answer the following question:

Fresh new jazzy flavours from Talos and the first leak from his upcoming Iridescent EP. The full release will arrive on 20 March, with features from Coops, Gabriella Vixen and Jerome Thomas. Streams and downloads for Poly Chrome are available from the usual platforms.

Another gem from Onoe Caponoe as he continues to build the hype for his forthcoming album. Blood Moon sees the High Focus MC joining forces with Lord Pusswhip for some trap fuelled audible joy. The video was made by Craig Capone. Surf or Die is due for release on 29 March.

This week High Focus announced that their latest signing to the label is Datkid, followed quickly by news of an album between him and Leaf Dog. The Demorus MC has been steadily building his rep for years and is widely regarded as one of the best MCs in the country, so HF seems like a good home for him.
Crud Addict is the first taste of the album and features a slick video shot on location in NY by Craig Capone. The Confessions of a Crudlord LP is due for release shortly. Stay tuned for more news on that soon.
