On Wednesday it was announced that High Focus had increased their numbers once again, with the introduction of TrueMendous onto their roster. It’s a win on two levels, as TrueMendous is an incredible MC who deserves more recognition, but also she is the first female artists to be signed by the label since their inception back in 2010, which is definitely a move in the right direction. For her debut HF release, the Birmingham MC has teamed up with label-mate Pitch 92 for That Don’t Mean, which provides a perfect snapshot of her energetic flows. The video was made by Leon Matthews. That Don’t Mean is available to stream now and stay tuned for more new music from TrueMendous coming soon.

Unless you’ve been comatose for the last year or so, you will no doubt be aware that The Four Owls are set to release their third album. The High Focus supergroup have gained critical acclaim for their first two albums and this latest offering looks set to garner even more praise. Honour Codes is the lead single from the album, featuring some very clean production from Leaf Dog, as well as a superbly animated video from Gary Motion. The album is due for release in the not too distant future, so stay tuned for more news on that coming soon. Honour Codes is available to stream now. Read the rest of this entry »

Another video from Onoe Caponoe, as he celebrates the release of his latest album, Invisible War. Exorcist is a song in two parts, thanks to a nice little switch up in the beat from producer, DJ $abre Watts. The track also features fellow Delix representative, Miles Dare. Invisible War is out now on High Focus. Read the rest of this entry »

New music from UK underground favourite, Ramson Badbonez, as he gears up to release his new Death Mask LP. On Sarcophagus, Badbonez takes aim at what I like to call grief tourism – the trend of people seemingly only championing an artist’s work once the artist is dead, having never mentioned them or their art before the event. I’m all for people discovering new artists who they relate to or connect with musically, but to go on as if you’ve always been their biggest fan, just to get more likes, is ultimately a bitch move. The video for Sarcophagus was made by This & That Media and the track was produced by Mark Fear. Pre-orders for Death Mask are available now. Read the rest of this entry »

A brand new video from Jam Baxter, for the next track to be taken from his recent Off Piste EP. The Stump is the EP’s closing track and features some masterful production from frequent collaborator, Chemo, and also Last Japan, the man behind the beat on Vulture. It’s by far the high point of the EP and I’d argue a high point in Baxter’s entire catalogue. The video for The Stump was made by This & That Media and Off Piste is out now on High Focus. New drop from Mr Key and Greenwood Sharps, as they deliver a video from their acclaimed EP. Luv Is All U Need M8 is my favourite track from the project and as the title suggests, it is a call for people to embrace the kinder side of life, in the midst of this current climate of hate that permeates every facet of the media at the moment, both social and otherwise. Makes sense to me. The video was made by Paula Palazon. Green & Gold is out now on High Focus. Read the rest of this entry »

A new loosie from the CMPND camp, as Wundrop blesses us with a track he wrote and recorded on the eve of the election, inspired by the dystopian shit show itself. It’s a perfect reflection of the general feeling in the country, as we try to scrape a semblance of hope out of fuck all, in an attempt to combat the malaise pervading our every fibre. Anyway, enjoy your weekend.

Part of the last minute rush of superb releases this year, is the new EP from Mr Key and Greenwood Sharps. Following on from the critical acclaim they received for their 2015 release, Yesterday’s Futures, the duo have created another sublime project, Green & Gold. There are strong themes of love, nature and hope within the EP and it’s accompanying short film, which breathe a breath of a fresh air into a scene where darker themes often prevail. The film was made by Jamie Johnson and can be watched below, where you can also stream the EP in full. Physical versions are available via High Focus.

A brand new video from Jam Baxter has just materialised, to coincide with the launch of his first ever book. Red Hawaiian is produced by Strange U’s own Dr Zygote, who has concocted a bouncy, warped beat which switches up nicely halfway through and strays just enough into the left field. Baxter’s book, Off Piste, is a collection of lyrics, illustrations and other visual madnesses, from the mind of one of the country’s most unique MCs. Pre-orders for the book, 7″ single and associated merch are available via High Focus. The video for Red Hawaiian is made by This & That Media.

Keeping the momentum going, here’s the brand new video from Verb T and Pitch 92. Frostbitten is the latest gem to be mined from their recent album, A Question of Time, which is out now on High Focus. The video was made by Parallel Media.
