It’s been a while since Group BraCil have made an appearance on the blog, but the hiatus is now over thanks to the emergence of new music from Capriisun. The Oregon MC has got an album on the horizon, as well as a UK tour underway, so it’s the perfect time to bless the world with a taste of what he’s been cooking up. Glory is produced by label head, Morriarchi, and will feature on the new album, Calliope, which is due for release on 7 July.

Slim’s Pickings 2022 Pt. 2

Following on from last week’s continued roundup of some of my favourite releases from 2022, I’m back with what I thought was going to be my final selection. The original plan was to cover 30 EPs and albums, but as time has gone on my mind has decided to trigger more musical memories from the year. Add to that the fact that the last breaths of 2022 brought us a few more releases and I realise now that I could easily do a top 40 (shout out to 80’s Sunday evenings on Radio One). So without further ado, here are my next ten choices, and as usual they arrive in no particular order beyond the sequence my memory brought them to the surface. The third and final instalment will follow shortly.

New music from the Group BraCil camp, as Morriarchi connects with Koncept Jack$on for A Toa$t. It’s a blissful burst of soul tinted production, which Jack$on glides over with ease, while KAYANA’s backing vocals make everything all the more smooth. You can hear the track and the instrumental below, with downloads available over on Bandcamp.

A fresh batch of hazy joy from Spectacular Diagnostics, as he treats us to another video from his latest album. Fish features the always enticing flows of Pertrelli Purple, as well as some psychedelia flavoured visuals from Morriarchi and Honey JD. Natural Mechanics is out now on Group BraCil.
Maddy: Not For Sale (Stream)
The second mention of Maddy today, as she connects with the Group BraCil family for this absorbing single. Produced by Morriarchi, Not For Sale finds Maddy sounding stronger than ever, as she rails against the flashy letches that lurk in the night. It’s good to see Maddy connecting with artists of this calibre; she’s someone I’ve been championing since I interviewed her for Brapp, back in 2017. Hopefully we get to hear more from her soon.

Following on from a couple of exquisite singles, the full album from Spectacular Diagnostics is given life today. Natural Mechanics sees the Chicago producer taking proceedings in a different direction to last year’s Raw Unknown, with a decidedly more mellow and dreamy sound threaded through the duration of the album. Heavier on the instrumentals too, although there are some superb features from Jeremiah Jae, lojii, Pertrelli Purple and Immi Larusso. You can explore the full album below and then check out the vinyl edition via Group BraCil. Shout out to Matt Littler on the artwork.

Spectacular Diagnostics has a new album on the way and yesterday he treated us to the lead single, which features Philadelphia favourite, lojii. _less than is accompanied by a summery, psychedelia flecked video from Loudhouse. The album, Natural Mechanics, is due for release on 28 May via Group BraCil.
Morriarchi ft. Jack Danz: River Path
Moody brilliance here, as Morriarchi celebrates the release of his latest project with a brand new video. River Path sees the Group BraCil producer teaming up with Jack Danz, who you realise is the perfect fit for the track as soon as his vocals crackle into life. The track is lifted from Geography of Peace, which is out now on both digital and cassette.
Capriisun: Celeste
New video from the next chapter of Group BraCil’s growing story, as Capriisun releases the lead single from his new album. The track is produced by Idntrmmbr and is taken from A Fleeting Now, which is released on 15 September. Pre-orders are available now.
Don Leisure: Drums For Mother Russia + LP News
The Group Bracil roster has been expanding recently, including the addition of Don Leisure to their ranks. The producer is perhaps best known as one half of Darkhouse Family, as well as a wealth of solo releases over the last decade or so. Now he has aligned himself with the London label and his first offering is this new Russia inspired instrumental project, built from the 70’s and 80’s Soviet gems he’s found on his travels around the globe. You can check out a visual for Drums For Mother Russia above and there are a couple more tasters below. The full thing is also available on cassette and digital.
