PremRock’s new album was brought into the world in full yesterday, accompanied by a new video for the track, Remorse. As well as PremRock’s main thread of vocals, there are also some emotive backing contributions from ELUCID and compellingly rhythmic joint production from Fresh Kils and Prem himself. Load Bearing Crow’s Feet is out now and keep an eye out for a review from me in the next issue of The Wire Magazine.
Something of a surprise drop from Backwoodz Studioz today, as Henry Canyons and Googie join forces for to deliver Hijinx. I’ve got a proper review coming in The Wire next month so I won’t go into too much detail, suffice it to say it is 100% worthy of your time and attention. If you’ve heard their sporadic collabs in the past, then you’ll know they’re a good pairing, and with production contributions from regular co-conspirators, Matt Bowen and Fresh Kils, it all adds up to a very successful venture indeed. You can stream the album in full below, with downloads available via Bandcamp. Continue reading “Googie & Henry Canyons: Hijinx (Stream)”
Pleased to see the arrival of the new project from PremRock and Curly Castro, as they connect to form Shrapknel. The duo have been friends and collaborators for a long time, so this union makes a lot of sense, even more so when you hear the EP itself. Featuring some stunning production from the likes of ELUCID, Fresh Kils and Small Pro, Cobalt is the perfect introduction to Shrapknel, as we await the release of their full-length album, which is produced entirely by ELUCID and Backwoodz Studioz in-house wizard, Willie Green. You can stream Cobalt in full below, with downloads available via Bandcamp. Continue reading “Shrapknel: Cobalt (Stream)”
Today we are graced with the arrival of another superb project from PremRock and Fresh Kils, as they reunite for Shelf Life. Having been given life during a week long stay in Toronto, Shelf Life is described by PremRock as their most collaborative work yet, a statement which is backed up by the overall fluidity and cohesion of the project itself.
They are also joined by a few notable artists along the way, with LA duo ZenSoul dropping in on No Mandate, plus Birdapres and fellow Wrecking Crew member, Curly Castro stepping up to the mic on Loud Again. You can listen to Shelf Life in full below and downloads are available over on Bandcamp. Continue reading “PremRock & Fresh Kils: Shelf Life (Stream)”
Its been a few months since I dropped an interview on here, so I am pleased to be able to present a recent conversation I had with one of my favourite MCs, Henry Canyons. Having blessed us with two new projects this year – La Côte West and Cool Side of the Pillow – as well as touring North America and Europe with PremRock & Fresh Kils, the Backwoodz MC has already made 2018 his own. We spoke about making Cool Side, how much jazz has influenced his career and his recent artist’s residence in Biarritz, among other things. Continue reading “Henry Canyons: Interview”
Philly duo Zilla Rocca & Small Pro – aka Career Crooks – return with a new musical selection, following on from their 2017 debut, Good Luck With That. Strong lyricism, production and criminality still reign supreme on what is ostensibly a remix album, but with some fresh material also thrown in. There are remixes from the duo themselves, as well as some other gems from Fresh Kils, DJ Manipulator, and Rolled Gold Beats to name a few. The album is out now on URBNET and you can stream it in full below. Continue reading “Career Crooks: Thieving As Long As I’m Breathing (Stream)”
PremRock & Fresh Kils brightened up these cold climes with a surprise EP this week. Poet’s Payday has been put together while the duo are on tour and the result is seven strong tracks, ranging from the light air of Somebody Up There, to the electronic bombardment of Fentanyl. There are some nice features too, with billy woods dropping in on the aforementioned Fentanyl, Zilla Rocca bringing his a-game to Bad Sign and Ice Tha one making an appearance on Time, Change. Poet’s Payday is available to stream below and you can grab a download over on Bandcamp. Continue reading “PremRock & Fresh Kils: Poet’s Payday”
Nice selection of remixes on this new release from PremRock and Fresh Kils. Following on from the original Leave In Tact album, which was released back in November, a bevy of amply talented producers have all given their own take on some of the songs. Blockhead, L’Orange, Willie Green and Elaquent are just some of the names involved, which gives you an idea of the sort of sounds you can expect to grace your ears. To get an even better idea, you can stream the project below and you can make a purchase over on Bandcamp. Continue reading “PremRock & Fresh Kils: Leave In Tact (The Remix Collection)”
The latest track from Premrock and Fresh Kils made its appearance the other day. This time the duo drafted in some vets to assist, in the form of C-Rayz Walz and El Da Sensei. The result is a lyrical frenzy and yet another reason to cop the LP, Leave In Tact, which you can download here. You can stream Feast below. Continue reading “Premrock & Fresh Kils ft. C-Rayz Walz & El Da Sensei: Feast”
