Ras G x Flying Lotus: Black Heaven

Hip hop is in mourning once again, following the sad news that legendary LA producer and child of the cosmos, Ras G, passed away last week. One of those to voice their grief was fellow producer, Flying Lotus, who described Ras as an “ally in sonic warfare”, before going on to share a track that the two of them had worked on the last time they saw each other. Black Heaven was given life when FlyLo was experimenting with his mini keyboard and Ras was recording what went down. The following day Ras sent him a new track and the title was Black Heaven. Flying Lotus ft. Denzel Curry: Black Balloons Reprise

The next piece of the puzzle that is Flying Lotus’s new album fell into place yesterday, as the producer slash musician slash filmmaker unveiled the latest single. Black Balloons Reprise features Florida rapper, Denzel Curry, and is effectively a tribute to Madlib and Egon of Now-Again and Rappcats fame. In FlyLo’s own words, “When I was in college I heard [Quasmimoto’s] ‘Come on Feet’, it relit my love for sampling and eventually changed my world”. Flamagra is out this Friday on Warp.

Flying Lotus ft. Anderson .Paak: More

Another stellar video from Flying Lotus as he continues to build the hype for his forthcoming album. More sees him teaming up with genre spanning vocalist, Anderson Paak, accompanied by a visually stunning video from Shinichiro Watanabe, who enlists the help of some of Japan’s finest animé artists. Flamagra is due for release on 24 May on Warp.

Flying Lotus ft. David Lynch: Fire Is Coming

Big things on the horizon for Flying Lotus as details of his sixth studio album finally emerge. The producer and sometime horror director last released a solo effort back in 2014 with his You’re Dead album and it was such a success that fans have been thirsting for more ever since. How did the collaboration with The Clinic come about?

I’ve known them all for a very long time and worked with them when I was in different bands, and we all come together for musical therapy sessions. The EP is what came out of some of the best sessions. We’re all still in need of further treatment.

What’s the general reaction to the EP been like?
