Hip hop is in mourning once again, following the sad news that legendary LA producer and child of the cosmos, Ras G, passed away last week. One of those to voice their grief was fellow producer, Flying Lotus, who described Ras as an “ally in sonic warfare”, before going on to share a track that the two of them had worked on the last time they saw each other. Black Heaven was given life when FlyLo was experimenting with his mini keyboard and Ras was recording what went down. The following day Ras sent him a new track and the title was Black Heaven. You can hear it below and then after that go stream as much of Ras’s music as you can. Rest easy, sir. Continue reading “Ras G x Flying Lotus: Black Heaven”
The next piece of the puzzle that is Flying Lotus’s new album fell into place yesterday, as the producer slash musician slash filmmaker unveiled the latest single. Black Balloons Reprise features Florida rapper, Denzel Curry, and is effectively a tribute to Madlib and Egon of Now-Again and Rappcats fame. In FlyLo’s own words, “When I was in college I heard [Quasmimoto’s] ‘Come on Feet’, it relit my love for sampling and eventually changed my world”. Flamagra is out this Friday on Warp.
Another stellar video from Flying Lotus as he continues to build the hype for his forthcoming album. More sees him teaming up with genre spanning vocalist, Anderson Paak, accompanied by a visually stunning video from Shinichiro Watanabe, who enlists the help of some of Japan’s finest animé artists. Flamagra is due for release on 24 May on Warp.
Big things on the horizon for Flying Lotus as details of his sixth studio album finally emerge. The producer and sometime horror director last released a solo effort back in 2014 with his You’re Dead album and it was such a success that fans have been thirsting for more ever since. Now that thirst is set to be quenched with a new full-length project, boasting a suitably diverse range of guest features, spread across a vast array of 27 tracks. Continue reading “Flying Lotus ft. David Lynch: Fire Is Coming”
Ever present in the left field, Gaslamp Killer recently announced a new album and leaked this audio track. The album itself was inspired by GLK almost dying in a car accident a few years back; in fact as the press release stated, the first five minutes of the album were recorded while a bed ridden morphine addled mess. How did the collaboration with The Clinic come about?

What’s the general reaction to the EP been like?
Wicked. It got EP of the month in MixMag which was well unexpected but a real boost. Its all been positive feedback we’re receiving from people and we’re getting airplay on Radio 1, 1Xtra and the like. Continue reading “NATHAN “FLUTEBOX” LEE INTERVIEW”
