More new music is on the way to your ears this month, as Duncecap returns with his latest album. Go Climb A Tree sounds like it will follow in the successful footsteps of Dunce’s previous single producer projects, as he teams up with experimental producer, Hajino. Under The Hood is our first glimpse of the album, which is fortified further by a typically dope feature from Fielded. The album is due for release on 25 February on Backwoodz Studioz, and includes further features from AKAI SOLO, Quelle Chris, Rich Jones, Googie and MC Eleven.
Back in October I found myself in London at the same time as Fielded, who was in town to perform with installation artist, Naama Tsabar. I took the opportunity to sit down with her for an interview, where we spoke about her new EP, Young Medusa, as well as displaying vulnerability through art, keeping things varied and learning to enjoy the act of collaborating.Continue reading “Fielded: Interview”
Always nice to see the arrival of new music from Fielded, as she blesses Backwoodz Studioz with her latest EP. Land o Pines is just one of the gems to be found on Young Medusa, as well as a fantastic cover of Mother Stands For Comfort, originally written by one of our shared musical heroes, Kate Bush. Land o Pines was produced by Willie Green and the EP is available now via all the usual spots.
After well and truly getting the world excited with a teaser from his album, yesterday marked the full release for Steel Tipped Dove. Having amassed a list of features to make the average underground rap fan weep tears of joy, Dove went on to craft a selection of beats that each marry perfectly with their guest stars. As well as the previously shared, NFT, featuring The Koreatown Oddity and billy woods, there are also cuts with SKECH185, Fatboi Sharif, SHIRT, ELUCID, KeiyaA, Fat Tony, Pink Siifu and Fielded, as well as a few more with woods. You can experience a taste of the joys available below and then head to Bandcamp to show your support.Continue reading “Steel Tipped Dove: Call Me When You’re Outside (Stream)”
Justus is the latest single to be released by Fielded, coinciding with the release of her Backwoodz Studioz debut. I’ve got a full review coming in The Wire next month, but for now get stuck into this visually arousing film and familiarise yourselves with an artist whose name you’re going to be hearing a lot more of. The track also features billy woods and the video was made by Alice Millar and Lauryn Siegel. The album, Demisexual Lovelace, is out now on all the usual platforms.
A newly formed duo have emerged under the Mello Music banner, as ELUCID and The Lasso join forces to become Small Bills. Both artists are already celebrating wins this year, thanks to Armand Hammer’s triumph with Shrines, and The Lasso’s psychedelic adventure alongside Psypiritual. Now they look set to rack up another one with Don’t Play It Straight, if the first single is anything to go by. Featuring fellow Backwoodz affiliate, Fielded, The Lasso’s punchy horn-flecked production gives a new sense of vigour to ELUCID’s rhyming and leaves me intrigued as to what the rest of the album will offer. Features throughout, including billy woods, Koncept Jack$on and Moor Mother. The album is due for release on 30 October. Continue reading “Small Bills ft. Fielded: Safehouse + LP News”
New video from billy woods, as he delivers the visuals for Western Education Is Forbidden. It’s the latest single to be taken from woods’ most recent album, Terror Management, and features some enchanting vocal support from Brooklyn-based singer, Fielded. The name of the track is the English translation of Boko Haram, who woods also references in his lyrics, “It’s Top Ramen, it’s Boko Haram/It’s non-violence in Afrikaans.” Terror Management is out now on Backwoodz Studioz.
