Elzhi: Seven Times Down Eight Times Up (Stream)

The new album from Elzhi is out in full today. Produced in its entirety by JR Swiftz, Seven Times Down Eight Times Up is more of the same solid lyricism we’ve come to expect from one of the most consistently dope and competent rappers of the last two decades. Couple of welcome features from Fes Roc and Monica Blaire, but for the most part it’s simply Elzhi doing what he does best. You can stream it below and downloads are available via Fat Beats.

Breeze Brewin: Devil’s Advocate

Very pleased to be able to bring you new music from Breeze Brewin, as he lends his voice to the call to get out and vote in America. As we are all aware, Trump is nearing the end of his first term as president, which means that in November the country will go to the polls again to select their leader for the next four years. On Devil’s Advocate, Brewin has penned a withering attack on Trump, cleverly weaving all the accusations that have been levelled at him into the track, as well as all the more obvious and confirmed scandals that he has been involved with. The track is also produced by Brewin and the video was made by Twin Lenses. There is also news of a forthcoming Juggaknots album as well, so expect more news on that soon.

Elzhi: Light One Write One

Another nice cut from the forthcoming Elzhi album. Once again it’s JR Swiftz on the beat, with a sample that will bring back memories for any early days Atmosphere fans out there. The track is taken from Seven Times Down Eight Times Up, which is due for release on 25 September.

New joint here from Elzhi, as he delivers the lead single from his recently announced album. Seven Times Down Eight Times Up is the name of the project and it will feature full production from JR Swiftz, an up-and-coming producer from Virginia Beach, VA. Fatlip & Blu ft. Hemlock Ernst: Good For The Soul

Superb drop here via Fat Beats, as Fatlip and Blu release a surprise new single, Good For The Soul. The track emerged last week, along with hints that a full-length project from the duo might also follow shortly. On this particular joint, Blu and Fatlip have secured a valuable guest spot from Hemlock Ernst. The vocal and instrumental versions are available to download now via Bandcamp.

Ohbliv & Sadhugold: Ra(w) Material (Stream)

Strong collaboration here, as Mutant Academy’s Ohbliv and Nature Sounds affiliate, Sadhugold, unite to form Czardust. With The Ra(w) Material, they have created an album that is the perfect platform for their respective talents. Get Shot is the latest single to be released from last year’s excellent collaboration between Masta Ace and Marco Polo. The cuts on the track come courtesy of Shy The Beat Yoda and DJ Linx. A Breukelen Story is available via Fat Beats Records.

Two Detroit legends combine their talents and experience to great effect, as Big Tone and House Shoes bless us with their Big Shoes project. From My Mouth To Gods Ears is just one of the gems the album holds, now accompanied by a fresh video from Aux Cinema. The album also features fellow Detroit rap alumni Quelle Chris and Denmark Vessey, as well as Blu, Jimetta Rose, 87 and Mosel. Daringer: Baker’s Dozen (Stream)

Griselda production stalwart, Daringer, teams up with Fat Beats to assist with the 11th instalment of their Baker’s Dozen series. The 13 beats provide a nice insight into Daringer’s methods and shine a light on why he has fast become the favourite of many of today’s rap fans. Daringer himself says that his dad was a jazz pianist and so he grew up listening to a lot of improvised sessions, which definitely influenced his sometimes unconventional sequencing. The collection is available to stream below and downloads can be found on Bandcamp.

Ohbliv: Give Thanks (Stream)

Ohbliv has been on my radar ever since I first heard his production work on various Mutant Academy projects. Give Thanks is his latest beat selection and is a prime example of why he’s not only a favourite of mine, but also of the likes of Fly Anakin, Armand Hammer and Koncept Jack$on. Ohbliv sees this new release as a follow up to his contribution to the Baker’s Dozen series, which is put together by Fat Beats. For the recording he drew for a number of production tools, including his favourite – the SP-404. Give Thanks is available to stream in full below.
