Your Old Droog released a new album yesterday, continuing a run that has seen the release of seven projects since 2019. Arguably the track on Time that has people most excited is an MF DOOM collaboration with production from Edan, but the track that really caught my ear is Field Of Dreams, which features guest spots from two of my favourites – Aesop Rock and Elzhi. The production is handled by Roper Williams, who was the brains behind the Gandhi Loves Children album, alongside Fatboi Sharif. You can hear the track below, then head to Droog’s website to find all the streaming and download links for the full album.Continue reading “Your Old Droog ft. Aesop Rock & Elzhi: Field Of Dreams”
The new album from Elzhi is out in full today. Produced in its entirety by JR Swiftz, Seven Times Down Eight Times Up is more of the same solid lyricism we’ve come to expect from one of the most consistently dope and competent rappers of the last two decades. Couple of welcome features from Fes Roc and Monica Blaire, but for the most part it’s simply Elzhi doing what he does best. You can stream it below and downloads are available via Fat Beats. Last week social media was buzzing after confirmation that next year would finally deliver the long-awaited collaboration between Madlib and Oh No. The brothers have long been hinting at the prospect of a joint album, but until now those hints had not materialised into anything definite. But now it’s been confirmed that The Professionals will be unleashed into the world early next year and it looks like they’re going to be more than ably assisted, it this first audio leak is anything to go by. On Superhumans, the duo are joined by Detroit legend, Elzhi, and Bronx veteran, Chino XL. The full release of The Professionals is set for 17 January and pre-orders are available now via Rappcats.
This week we finally got to explore the much anticipated collaboration from Skyzoo and Pete Rock, as they released their Retropolitan LP. The two NY representatives have crafted an album that is at once an ode to the city they love and a cautionary tale about the gentrification that is so prevalent throughout the Five Boroughs. Skyzoo and Pete Rock treat us to the second single from their forthcoming abum, featuring an altogether ridiculous list of guests. The NY duo are joined by four lyrical heavyweights on Eastern Conference All Stars, as Griselda’s Westside Gunn, Conway and Benny The Butcher all hitting the booth, with Detroit favourite, Elzhi completing the line-up. It’s as powerful as you can imagine and you can hear for yourself below. The album, Retropolitan, is due for release on Mello Music Group on 20 September.
The mash up master, Tom Caruana, returns with another incredible project as he continues to blend areas of music that would otherwise remain perfect strangers. Following on from his earlier ventures, including Wu Tang vs. Hendrix and Wu Tang vs. The Beatles, the Tea Sea Records founder has now delved into the instrumentals of German experimental rock band, Can, who were one of the pioneers of the Krautrock explosion that occurred in the late-60s. Two lyrical dons unite as Diamond D releases the video for I Can’t Lose featuring Detroit favourite, Elzhi. The track is taken from Diamond’s recent album, The Diam Piece 2.
