Rick and Morty x Run The Jewels: Oh Mama

Run The Jewels and Rick & Morty collaborations are nothing new, thanks to a few clothing releases from Daylight Curfew over the past couple of years. But things moved up a notch on Friday when Adult Swim released a new video for RTJ’s Oh Mama, featuring the animated stars on a typically bloody mission to retrieve an unseen – but very shiny – item, a la Vincent and Jules in Pulp Fiction. In an ideal world the next step from here would be if Killer Mike and El-P actually got a cameo in a proper episode, but we’ll have to see about that. For now, make the most of this little beauty.

BOOTS ft. Run The Jewels & Cristin Milioti: Delete Delete

Musical mastermind, BOOTS, is back with a new EP entitled #DARKDAZE and among the four gems is Delete Delete. Featuring friends and regular collaborators, Run The Jewels, as well as some beautiful vocals from Cristin Milioti, Delete Delete leaves its presence lingering long after the music draws to a close. The EP is available to buy now from all the usual spots.

Run The Jewels: Call Ticketron

A brand new Run The Jewels video appeared on my timeline last night, with no need for any fanfare because unlike 90% of trash rap videos that are doing the rounds, MIke & El have a long rich history of delivering entertaining visuals (see Legend Has It, Close Your Eyes…, Don’t Get Captured etc etc).
For Call Ticketron, the duo have created an apocalyptic, B-movie extravaganza, complete with panicked newsreaders and giant spiders. It is coming up to a year since the third RTJ instalment landed in our laps, but a tweet from El-P earlier in the week signalled that RTJ4 was en route, so stay tuned for more on that. Statik Selektah ft. Run The Jewels: Put Jewels On It

New track from Statik Selektah, taken from his forthcoming album, 8. The New York-based producer has enlisted the plentiful skills of mic murderers, El-P & Killer Mike, on Put Jewels On It and as usual the two MCs seem to push each other to bring their best to the beat. The album is due for release on 8 Decmber and if you pre-order now, you get Put Jewels On It right away.

Run The Jewels ft. Isaiah Dreads: Down (U.K. Remix)

El-P mentioned on Twitter a few weeks ago that there was an RTJ remix on the way, featuring a British MC. I’ve been speculating ever since and the general consensus between me and everyone who put their twopence in was that it would be a grime MC, a) cos we know El is a big fan of the genre and b) cos if it was anyone from UK hip hop, its likely something would have come on to my radar already. Run The Jewels: Don’t Get Captured

Run The Jewels continue to up the ante with each new video they release and this latest one is raising the bar even higher. The visual for Don’t Get Captured sees an animated Mike and El manoeuvring their way through a particularly twisted take on a haunted house funfair ride, complete with the horrors of gentrification and police harassment. It’s also entirely populated by skeletons. Great production from Jacknife Films.

El-P’s Best Insults

El-P is many things to many people – producer extraordinaire, independent rap pioneer, deli owner, friend of cats, social commentator, high as fuck Twitter user… the list goes on. He’s also got some really strong insults. A good insult is as much a part of rap as bad spelling and squatting in photos, and there have been many purveyors of quality disses over the years. Run The Jewels: Legend Has It

Run The Jewels love to do things without warning, like release an album or drop a new video. The latter happened just this week, with the arrival of some visual mischief for Legend Has It. The track was already one of my favourites due to the sheer number of quotables – on an album which is basically just one long quotable anyway – and this video is definitely worthy of accompanying it. Run The Jewels: Legend Has It

Not only did yesterday produce a new RTJ single, it also finally gave us a release date for the long awaited third instalment from the duo. Legend Has It is probably my favourite of the leaks we’ve been treated to so far and the news that the album with feature heads like Danny Brown and Kamasi Washington, just makes the hype almost unbearable at this point. The official release date is now 3 January 2017, with more info here.

Run the Jewels ft. Boots: 2100

2100

I never really want to get too political on here, plus I think at this point we have all made our thoughts about this new realm of fear we seem to be entering pretty clear. None more so than Run the Jewels, who last night released a new song called 2100, featuring their friend and collaborator Boots. The sentiment is as strong as ever, as you will hear below.
