DJ Yoda: Jay Electronica x MF DOOM – A Written Doom (Stream)

The release of Jay Electronica’s long-awaited album caused plenty of discussions online, as you would expect from an album that had been under scrutiny long before it was ever given life. Many fans were thrilled, proclaiming it the year’s best, if not THE best, album after only a few hours. Other listeners were disappointed, with a strong contingent saying Elec was out-rapped by Jay Z. And then we had those like DJ Yoda who were simply confused by the album. Production choices didn’t make sense and the fact that Jay Z was so prominent was a further disappointment. Yoda even tweeted about a fantasy replacement project, with DOOM on production. And in typical Yoda fashion, that’s exactly what he made happen soon after. So below you can hear A Written Testimony, minus the Jay Z appearances, plus production from Metal Fingers himself. Downloads are available via Bandcamp.

Tom Caruana: Inner Space (Stream)

The mash up master, Tom Caruana, returns with another incredible project as he continues to blend areas of music that would otherwise remain perfect strangers. Following on from his earlier ventures, including Wu Tang vs. Hendrix and Wu Tang vs. The Beatles, the Tea Sea Records founder has now delved into the instrumentals of German experimental rock band, Can, who were one of the pioneers of the Krautrock explosion that occurred in the late-60s. Open Mike Eagle & MF Doom: Police Myself

Last week I shared a new Open Mike Eagle video with you, taken from his newly birthed comedy show, which he presents alongside Baron Vaughn. Now he’s back with another hilarious joint, this time featuring the enigmatic OG, DOOM, as the pair delve into the idea of “the cop that lives inside all black men’s heads”. The New Negroes is currently being shown on Comedy Central.

Ramson Badbonez: BADOOM

New mixtape from Ramson Badbonez, an MC who is more than capable of taking on some of hip hop’s greatest producers and making their beats his own. This time round he is drawing on DOOM’s great legacy, specifically his Special Herbs Collection. There are six tracks to savour, all mixed and mastered by the OG Jazz T, and it’s available as a free download. You can stream it below and downloads can be found here. DJ Muggs: Dia Del Asesinato (Stream)

Was happy to see the release of the new album from DJ Muggs, following on from his recent successes with DOOM and Meyhem Lauren. Even more pleased to be able to report that the project is another triumph. Muggs has always been a much-respected producer, with artists like Madlib citing him as a huge influence on their sound. And with good reason, as Dia Del Asesinato demonstrates. The list of features is testament to the esteem Muggs is held in by the scene as well, with MCs like Raekwon, Mach-Hommy, Hus Kingpin and DOOM all bringing their A-game to the project. The album is available to stream below and you can also buy it via Soul Assassins.

DJ Muggs & DOOM ft. Kool G Rap: Assassination Day

We were recently gifted two new tracks from the long-awaited union between DJ Muggs and DOOM, after teasing us with talk of a collaboration at the end of 2017. The two track release features Freddie Gibbs, who jumped on Death Wish and now we have the veteran MC, Kool G Rap, who lends his infamous flows to Assassination Day. You can listen to the audio for the track above and I’m sure a video will follow shortly. The project is out now on Soul Assassins.

DJ Muggs & DOOM ft. Freddie Gibbs: Death Wish (Video)

Just the other day we were treated to new music from Muggs and DOOM, as they released their anticipated collaboration, featuring Freddie Gibbs and Kool G Rap. Now the duo are back with a new video for the Gibbs featured Death Wish. The animated video takes on a Sin City, neo-noir vibe thanks to the ample talents of Patric Magno and Edgar Nari. MUGGS X DOOM is out now via Soul Assassins.

DJ Muggs & DOOM ft. Freddie Gibbs: Death Wish

At the end of last year, DJ Muggs hinted at the possible arrival of a collaboration between him and DOOM. As with most DOOM-related announcements, the initial hype peaked early before plateauing into the usual rap fan cynicism that we would most likely never hear the project. That was until a couple of weeks ago when a few promo shots appeared online claiming that the release was scheduled for the following week. Then on Friday, along with projects from Westside Gunn and Freddie Gibbs, we saw the release of two new singles from the duo. Continue reading “DJ Muggs & DOOM ft. Freddie Gibbs: Death Wish”
