Danny Brown kicked off the new year by launching his own label, Bruiser Brigade Records, and with it came the maiden release – GOD GOKU JAY-Z from fellow Detroit resident, J.U.S. Featuring production from a few Bruiser affiliates, including skywlkr and Black Noi$e, the album is a strong start for the fledgling label. There is also a video for the Black Noi$e produced Brown Noise, which features Danny (as you might have guessed), which you can watch above. The album is available to stream below, with downloads via Bandcamp. Continue reading “J.U.S ft. Danny Brown: Brown Noise + LP Stream”
Danny Brown has recently released a video for one of the arguable high points on his acclaimed uknowhatimsayin¿ album. 3 Tearz features his friends and previous collaborators, Run The Jewels, plus some fire production from JPEGMAFIA, who Danny has become close with over the last couple of years. The video was directed by Colin Read and features, in Danny’s words, “100 camera-wielding bruisers, some champagne & a couple of blunts”. uknowhatimsayin¿ is out now on Warp Records. Another piece in the puzzle that is Danny Brown’s new album, which is due for release on Friday. On the latest single, the Detroit rapper calls in his pals Run The Jewels, as the three of them lace a wild beat from JPEGMAFIA. The track is taken from uknowhatimsayin¿, which is due for release on Warp Records.
The anticipation for Danny Brown’s new album has been building steadily over the last few months, even more so since he unveiled the list of contributors involved, including the likes of Q-Tip, Run The Jewels, JPEGMAFIA, Blood Orange and Flying Lotus, who takes on the role of executive producer. Dirty Laundry is our first peek at what the project holds in store, with Q-Tip laying down a wonderfully twisted beat for Danny to get to work on. The video is class too, as the Detroit MC takes on the role of what looks like a washed-up old lounge singer to great comedic effect. The album, uknowhatimsayin¿, is due for release on 4 October via Warp Records.
The mash up master, Tom Caruana, returns with another incredible project as he continues to blend areas of music that would otherwise remain perfect strangers. Following on from his earlier ventures, including Wu Tang vs. Hendrix and Wu Tang vs. The Beatles, the Tea Sea Records founder has now delved into the instrumentals of German experimental rock band, Can, who were one of the pioneers of the Krautrock explosion that occurred in the late-60s. Open Mike Eagle recently debuted his new comedy series, The New Negroes, a show which he has put together with comedian and actor, Baron Vaughn. The show features a blend of stand up, sketches and music, as demonstrated in this new video which Comedy Central released a few days ago. In it we see Mike trying his best to hold his tongue in his workplace and beyond, before things get too much and he unleashes his unfiltered self, in the form of Danny Brown. The track is produced by Bionik.
Dirty 8-Bit sounds on the new track from Michigan producer, Dabrye. He enlists a triumvirate of distinct MCs for The Appetite, with Roc Marciano, Quelle Chris and Danny Brown, all sounding as on point as ever. The track is taken from Dabrye’s upcoming album, Three/Three, which is due for release mid-February. The rest of the album features a load more heavy hitters, including Guilty Simpson, Ghostface and DOOM, so definitely one to watch out for. More news on that soon.
Not only did yesterday produce a new RTJ single, it also finally gave us a release date for the long awaited third instalment from the duo. Legend Has It is probably my favourite of the leaks we’ve been treated to so far and the news that the album with feature heads like Danny Brown and Kamasi Washington, just makes the hype almost unbearable at this point. The official release date is now 3 January 2017, with more info here.
Any fans of Danny Brown would be wise to take a look at this new mixtape that appeared last week.
