Beautiful sounds from the Free Nationals, as they release their joyously soulful debut album. As you would expect the self-titled LP features an impressive support cast, including reggae vocalist, Chronixx, The Internet’s, Syd, and the man responsible for first bringing them to my attention, Anderson .Paak. A triumphant and very welcome return for Little Simz as she releases her much anticipated GREY Area album. Following on from 2017’s Stillness in Wonderland and a string of superb singles – Boss, No Offence, Selfish – the London MC hits us with a full length that portrays an artist who has grown in confidence and skill. I was definitely a fan of her earlier projects, but this one seems a lot more accomplished and cohesive than its predecessors. And on GREY Area, Simz seems a lot happier to amplify her voice and her views – see No Offence, Wounds, Venom and Boss for the evidence. The supporting cast helps to make the album the treat it is, with some great features from Chronixx, Little Dragon, Michael Kiwanuka and Cleo Sol. The album is available to stream in full below.
