There are a few forthcoming releases to be excited about in 2019, but one that should be near the top of all your lists is the long-awaited solo album from Baileys Brown. He’s found himself a new label home in the form of Potent Funk, one that suits his sound exceptionally well, in my opinion. The first taste of what’s in store was delivered over Christmas, with the lead single, Horses Mouth.
The track features two of Brown’s long-term collaborators, Datkid and Jinxsta JX, as well as a video from one of Bristol’s finest, Chris Lucas. The album, Still Fresh, is coming soon with a hefty list of features from Stinkin Slumrok, Black Josh, Bil Next, Axel Holy, Juga-Naut, Wish, Vard, Ly, Jordan Nathaniel, Anbu, Hozay, Bogues, Conz and Jay0117.

Last Friday saw the arrival of the next video to be taken from Twizzy’s latest album, Old Dog No Tricks. Old Flow features production from Billy Whizz and some great visuals from Chris Lucas (Although this blog would never condone bicycle theft). The album is out now on AFT Raps.

AFT Raps continue to go from strength to strength, as they ready another new release. Beachy Winter is the lead single from the forthcoming album from Rogue & Relly, the Bristol duo who go hard throughout. If you’re in Bristol, you’d be wise to head down to the release party on 21 September, where you’ll find a wealth of rap talent including a performance from TF veteran, Klashnekoff. The video was made by Chris Lucas.

Twizzy is due to return to the fore with a new album very soon and so to get us in the mood, yesterday saw the release of a new video from the project. Report is produced by fellow 3HB member, Billy Whizz and the highly entertaining video was made by Chris Lucas. The album, Old Dog No Tricks, is set for release on 10 September on AFT Raps.

Last week saw the arrival of the latest video from Upfront’s 2017 Lettermorphosis LP. The Split Prophets MC has another of his gang in tow, as he enlists Paro to help him bless the Chris Lucas produced track. The video was made by Parallel Media. Lettermorphosis is available to buy now.

It’s rare that you hear people say they’re looking forward to the arrival of World War 3, but that’s exactly what the last few months have felt like. Yes the collaboration between Vard, Wish and Baileys Brown is finally here and with it comes a new video too. Young & Influenced is a thought-provoking track, with a focus on that all too familiar tale of young girls who wind up in shady situations often beyond their control. The video was made by Chris Lucas.

Bristol MC, Hozay, recently released his Paisley Memoirs album, which is the culmination of the focus he has been applying to his beatmaking skills over the past few years. And that focus has paid off, as Hozay delivers a solid 19 tracks, that run the gamut from the reflective to the fesity and encompass all the attributes that Hozay has always brought to his art. Big track from the forthcoming Ded Tebiase album. The Bristol-based producer has drafted in some local talent for Sharon Stone, with both Hozay and Axel Holy (AKA Baileys Brown) each dropping a hefty verse. I listened to the album last night and can confirm it is sounding tight as fuck throughout. Landspeed is up for pre-order from Village Live on Monday. The video was shot by Chris Lucas.

The third cut from the upcoming Upfront album arrived yesterday, further paving the way for another Split Prophets success. Upfront and Chris Lucas have got a good partnership going and the addition of Evermoor Sound’s Aisha’mae, makes Ugaly a high point for me amongst all these strong, recent releases. The album is up for pre-order now, with a release date scheduled for 28 September.

This is the second single to be lifted from Upfront’s forthcoming album, which follows on from 2014’s Upfront & Personal. Fellow Bristol resident, Chris Lucas is the man behind the beats and it sounds like it’s going to be another success for the Split Prophets family. No release date for Lettermorphosis yet, but stay tuned for more news on that as and when.
