The intergalactic catlord, Onoe Caponoe, returned to our planet last week with a stellar new album, Surf Or Die. As ever, experimental is the word, as the High Focus MC delivers his usual brand of subversive and left field rap. His flows shift from controlled to frenetic over a broad selection of beats from a number of producers, including Chemo, Jae Genius, Lord Pusswhip and Onoe himself. The single feature comes on Chop Em Down from Caponoe favourite, L-Zee Roselli. Surf Or Die is available to stream below in all its strange glory, with physicals available via the High Focus store. There are a few terms that get bandied about way too often in hip hop – classic, GOAT, legend, movie etc. – but that last one is pretty apt for the latest video from Dirty Dike. The track Whoops is lifted from his recent Acrylic Snail LP and features a couple of stellar features from Jam Baxter and Rag’N’Bone Man, with the three roaming around what can only be described as a dystopian caravan park. The track is produced by Chemo and the video was made by Xiphi Films. Acrylic Snail is out now on High Focus.
New karaoke style lyric video for one of my favourite tracks from Jam Baxter’s most recent album, Touching Scenes. Sometimes videos of this ilk feel a bit pointless, but that turns to intrigue when we’re dealing with one of the most profound lyricists on this side of the Atlantic. Right Here is produced by Chemo and the album is available now on High Focus.
Fresh monochrome visuals for one of my favourite tracks from Jam Baxter’s recent album, as High Focus release the new video for Bodyslam. The track sees Baxter uniting once again with frequent lab partner, Chemo, as well as AboveGround who brings his usual skill set to the proceedings. The Touching Scenes album is available now from the High Focus store.
Village Live are finishing off another triumphant year with a collaborative album from two of the UK’s most respected lyricists. Postmodernism will unite Cappo and Cyrus Malachi, alongside production from some more of the scene’s top ranks including Evil Ed, Chemo and Wytfang. Pre-orders went live on Monday, including a limited edition vinyl run. If you want to get an idea of the levels at work here, you can check the promo mix below courtesy of Evil Ed. Start your week with the latest video to be taken from Scran Cartel’s Blue Plaque Candidates LP. For Dundee, Benny Diction and MNSR Frites brought in the ever-reliable Chemo to handle the production. If you haven’t checked out the album yet, downloads are available on Bandcamp.
Today sees the release of the latest album from High Focus’s resident hallucinogenics advocate, Jam Baxter. Touching Scenes follows on from last year’s acclaimed Mansion 38 album, which saw Baxter reuniting with Chemo, having scored a previous success together back in 2014 with So We Ate Them Whole. For this album he has chosen to branch out into additional production territory, drafting in some strong names – Last Japan, Sumgii, Sam Zircon and GhostTown – giving the entire project a very different feel to his previous two offerings. It all works brilliantly though, with Baxter’s imagery as dark as ever. Continue reading “Jam Baxter ft. Rag’n’Bone Man & OG Rootz: Mask (Video) + Album Stream”
Fresh out today is the next single from the upcoming Dirty Dike LP, Acrylic Snail. Caustic Soda features production from Chemo, alongside a visually arresting video from This & That Media. The album is due out next month on High Focus.
The new Jam Baxter is fast approaching and to keep us all salivating like the fiends that we are, High Focus have leaked another track. S.S.A sees the SMB MC team up with Chemo again, the producer responsible for his last two acclaimed albums. There is also a lyric video to accompany the audio, giving you more of an insight into the depth and vision that Baxter enriches his vocals with. Touching Scenes is out on 16 November on High Focus.
Fliptrix joins forces with Coops on the latest track to be lifted from his recent INEXHALE album. Inhale is produced by Chemo, with Jazz T on the cuts. INEXHALE is available now on all formats via High Focus.
