Time for me to play catch up as I finally get round to shining some light on the upcoming new release from Vice Beats. The Bristol-based producer has been working on a Dilla focused project for the last seven years and now it is finally nearing the release date. The project is a reworking of the classic Suite For Ma Dukes by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, with Vice bringing a whole bunch of talented souls into the fold, including Jaz Kahina and Nutty P. The whole project is due for release next month, so expect to hear a lot more about it then, but for now enjoy this taster. The video was made by Sam Bridges. Pre-orders for the vinyl edition are available now. Continue reading “Vice Beats ft. Jaz Kahina & Nutty P: Bring It Back”
Another great single from Bristol-based vocalist, Chikaya, as she conjures up more trappy future soul sounds with her elusive producer, on the aptly named Himalayas.
Highly entertaining new video from Wish Master, as he continues to polish off the gems from his Boom Bap To The Future album. Science sees the Bristol-based rapper playing both himself and an elderly lady called Blanche, in a riff that Eddie Murphy would be proud of. The video also features a number of cameos, including fellow Bristol lyricist, Buggsy, who finds himself having a smoke and drink with Wish on the moon. The whole thing has a great DIY B-Movie vibe about it, which only adds to the entertainment value. Science is produced by Baileys Brown and is lifted from BBTTF, which is out now on Official Recordings. Continue reading “Wish Master: Science”
The new album from Sylla B was released on Friday and marks a honing of skills for the Bristol-based MC. His last few releases have all demonstrated a growth in confidence and penmanship, leaving The Walls Have Eyes feeling like the culmination of all that progress. Straight up grime bangers sit next to more thought-provoking tracks, with the variety of styles strengthened by Sylla’s production choices. There are beats from Oozhe, xeno, DROG Beats, Moody Lew, Just Sayin, Yung Toro and sam.makes.beats, along with features from Toro, Gabriel Waves, Moody Lew and Solo Jane. This is a very strong release from an MC whose talent refuses to let him go unnoticed and one who’s only going to keep getting better. You can stream the album in full below and downloads are available from Bandcamp.
Lazy Eyez keeps the dope coming, as he releases his latest single, which follows on from his recent Loudhouse collaboration. Aures Uri sees the Bristol-based MC teaming up with some more local talent, as he brings in Mac Lloyd and El Bizzy to assist. The video was made by TDF Bristol.
Bristol in full effect on this brand new track from rising producer, DROG Beats, as he brings in two generations of local MCs. Any regular visitors to my blog will already know about Sylla B and his rise over the last couple of years, thanks to his often devastating flows. He is joined on the track by Bristol double-time OG and all-round lyrical monster, Buggsy. As you can imagine the final product is pretty special and highlights Bristol’s lengthy history of producing great lyricists. Enemies is also available to stream on all the usual platforms.
Another solid release from Green Brick Records MC, Lazy Eyez, as he teams up with the Loudhouse gang for his latest video. Best Out is produced by Badhabitz and the video was shot by Honey JD.
New Bristol charged banger from Jay0117, as he continues to rep the city to the fullest with 9Tree Hill. The track is produced by fellow Bristol artist, Sir Hiss, and the video was made by PatchUp Productions.
In the spirit of the original Friday feeling, Sylla B hits us with his latest track, Happy. It’s lifted from the Bristol MC’s forthcoming mixtape, The Walls Have Eyes, which is due out soon on VRBL Records. Happy is produced by JustSayin and the video was made by Andrew Busby
Fresh out of the Green Brick compound comes the brand new video from Crossbow T and Illinformed. Rough and rugged street rap laced over expertly crafted boom bap. What more could you ask for? Hold tight for the full album coming soon. The video was made by This & That Media.
