Over the past few weeks, Brighton-based MC, Hatter, has been blessing us with regular shots of new music as part of his Hatterday series. This week’s offering is a track featuring the talented presence of Bobbie Johnson and Normanton Street representative, Nicholson. And Wot is produced by Quiet Pill.
Following on from his new mixtape drop last week, Gi3MO now hits us with a new video from the project. F.U.T.F features fellow Rum Com rhymer, Ceezlin and regular sparring partner, Hatter, while production comes courtesy of Pro P. The track is lifted from Big Gizzy Is Boss, which is out now and then keep an eye out for his new album coming soon, The Unmistakable Gary Guttersnypes.
A welcome return for one of Brighton’s finest, as Gi3MO releases his new mixtape, Big Gizzy Is Boss. The project is a selection of previously unreleased tracks from the Rum Com MC, including some absolutely golden features from the likes of Tony D, Micall Parknsun, Inja and Dirty Dike. There are of course appearances from his Boozetown family too, with Ceezlin, Hatter, Dan Dastard and Rag’N’Bone Man all dropping gems. The project was put together by Giz and DJ Choice. It is available to stream below and you can grab a download over on the Rum Com Bandcamp page. Continue reading “Gi3MO: Big Gizzy Is Boss (Stream)”
I hadn’t listened to Music for the Mature B-Boy in a minute, but as soon as I put it on earlier today, I remembered exactly why it was in heavy rotation in my house for years after it dropped. It was my first encounter with DJ Format and I think it was sold to me on the J5 feature on We Know Something You Don’t Know, but that turned out to be just one of the high points. Illiterate & Awfer reunite as Concept of Thought for a new project, which is produced in full by Joe Corfield. Misty Blue is the title track and our first insight into what the duo have been cooking up. They have enlisted the ample talents of local Brighton-based vocalist, Daisy Drage, as well as a decent video from Brothers Of The Mud. Misty Blue is due out on Yogocop Records very soon.
One of the best things about someone from an independent movement achieving commercial success, is that it allows them to shine a light on the scene that helped them get to where they are today (ego permitting). Take Rag’N’Bone Man for example. Ever since he smashed into the charts last year, he has consistently involved his friends and local musical peers in everything he’s done, from taking Rum Committee on tour with him, to playing a very active role as patron of Brighton-based youth charity, AudioActive. Hatter is back with a new self-produced joint, which was released yesterday as the UK went to the polls. The sentiment of the track is that the world seems to be going backwards and with a possible Tory/DUP alliance on the cards, it seems particularly apt today.
