Joell Ortiz & KXNG Crooked: H.A.R.D. (Stream)

Another album worth some of your attention today, is the new collaboration between Joell Ortiz and KXNG Crooked. Having kicked off their careers at relatively the same time, when they both won XXL’s Freshmen of the Year Award in 2008, these are two accomplished rappers who between them have been signed to Death Row, Aftermath and Shady Records. Basically their reputation proceeds them and so it was really only a matter of how good this album was going to be, as opposed to whether it would flop. There are definitely no flops on the production side, thanks to contributions from the likes of The Heatmakerz, Erick Sermon, Apollo Brown and Illmind; not really any surprises in there, but the selection definitely fits the bill. Only two features, from fellow Mello resident, Blakk Soul, who brings his soaring vocals to an emotionally charged hook on Lose My Mind, and vocalist, MRK SX, who you might remember from the first single. You can hear the album for yourself below and downloads are available via Bandcamp. Continue reading “Joell Ortiz & KXNG Crooked: H.A.R.D. (Stream)”

Blakk Soul: Help / Smoke N Chill

New music emerging from the Mello Music Group camp, as they unveil their next release from new addition, Blakk Soul. The singer is under the guidance of Rapper Big Pooh and has already worked with the likes of Dr Dre, Jake One and Anderson Paak, but now he is making his MMG debut with Take Your Time. Two tracks have been released so far, including the Joell Ortiz assisted, Help, and the ultra smooth, Smoke N Chill. RnB and soul vibes in abundance, and with Mello referring to the album as, “a dripping wet bedroom masterpiece”, I think it’s fair to say the rest of the tracks are going to follow in the same vein. Take Your Time is due for release on 8 May, with pre-orders available now. You can also hear both of the singles below. Continue reading “Blakk Soul: Help / Smoke N Chill”
