Jehst: Mork Calling Orson (Stream)

A pleasing return to centre stage from Jehst, with the release of his first solo album since 2017’s, Billy Green is Dead. Mork Calling Orson finds the UK rap linchpin on typically fine form, with his pen remaining as sharp as ever and his production choices setting the album’s mood without fault. Contributions from Sam Zircon, Beat Butcha, Sonnyjim, Mr Brown, Keor Meteor, Taharka and Jehst himself, provide a varied but unified sound, while Lee Scott, CW Jones, Sindysman, Eva Lazarus and Confucius MC, all prove to be the perfect co-stars. Previews of Mork Calling Orson can be heard below, with Bandcamp being the best spot to grab your downloads and physical copies.

Jehst: Wild Herb

Jehst’s pen game is maintaining its health in these uncertain times, as demonstrated on this new single which saw its release today. Wild Herb is co-produced by Jehst and Beat Butcha, who have a strong history of making bangers together, so it was always going to be a pleasure to hear them back at it. It’s perfect timing too, as Jehst’s UK tour kicked off last night in Manchester, before hitting Leeds tonight. Downloads of Wild Herb are also available. Continue reading “Jehst: Wild Herb”

Jaz Kahina: School Run (Stream)

Pleased to see the arrival of Jaz Kahina’s new EP, following on the footsteps of three strong singles lifted from the project. School Run is a perfect snapshot of Jaz’s talent on the mic, as she weaves her way through production from the likes of Beat Butcha, Micall Parknsun and Nutty P. You can stream the EP in full below and you can grab a download over on Bandcamp. Continue reading “Jaz Kahina: School Run (Stream)”

Children Of Zeus: Travel Light (Stream)

It’s Friday, the sun is shining, Trump is getting the British welcome he deserves and we can finally indulge ourselves in the debut album from Children of Zeus. It has been a very long time coming and any regular visitors to my blog will know the work that the Manchester duo have put in over the years to get to this point. Weighing in at 13 tracks, Travel Light is everything I was anticipating. The MCR family vibe is as strong as ever, with guest spots from LayFullStop, [KSR], Metrodome and DRS, plus further production credits from Juga-Naut, Sebb Bash and Beat Butcha. Their trademark hip hop-soul sound is the most prevalent on the album, but there are elements of reggae and jazz at work too, making Travel Light a highly ambitious album, but one that works incredibly well. You can stream it in full below, with downloads and physicals available via Bandcamp. Continue reading “Children Of Zeus: Travel Light (Stream)”

Children Of Zeus: Travel Light

It’s been a long time coming, but we are now into the final few weeks before the arrival of the debut album from Children of Zeus. “Highly anticipated” doesn’t even cut it. Yesterday saw the unveiling of the artwork, the tracklist and the chance to pre-order what is undoubtedly going to be one of the most popular releases of the year.
It’s also a release that is going to be the much deserved payoff for the many years that both Konny and Tyler have dedicated to their respective fields, so much so that their fans are as happy as their own kinfolk to see the duo getting so much shine.
Travel Light promises to deliver more of the street soul flavour that has proved so popular since Children of Zeus first formed, as well as some reggae and jazz cuts thrown into the mix. There are features too from LayFullStop, [KSR], DRS and Terri Walker, plus production from Sebb Bash, Juga-Naut and Beat Butcha. The album is available to pre-order now on all formats and you can stream a couple of the tracks below. The official release date is set for 13 July on First Word Records. Jehst ft. Ennio Lion & Mr Thing: Smoke Screen

Striking visuals from Jehst as he brings us the latest video from his Billy Green is Dead LP. Smoke Screen is one of more the soulful tracks from the album, thanks in part to the vocal contributions of the enigmatic yet familiar, Ennio Lion. Mr Thing is also on hand for the cuts. The track was co-produced by Jehst and Beat Butcha. The clown action comes courtesy of Mimbo and the video was made in association with Paragon Pictures. Billy Green is Dead is out now on YNR Productions.

Corners: Corners LP

A great debut from a great group of established MCs, who have come together to form something of a UK supergroup. Beit Nun, Benny Diction and Deeflux have all been familiar names on the scene for years and have made some classic tracks as their own entities, but Corners may be their best work yet, as the combined power of the three creates something a little bit special. THEME “Toys Get Smoked” EP

I’ve got a lot of time for this new EP from London MC, THEME. As a debut release, he seems to have ticked all the right boxes, in terms of guest production and verses, but without distracting from the main star of the show: THEME and his bars. Continue reading “THEME “Toys Get Smoked” EP”
