Next month Bristol once again plays host to one of High Focus Record’s legendary parties. In the past the city has given a stage to their summer roadblocks and winter parties, but this time they will be one of two cities taking part in the label’s 8th birthday celebrations. Stepping away from their usual haunt of Lakota for this one, HF are headed to SWX in the centre of town. This means more room, better acoustics and a better sound system, which equals a better night for all involved. Continue reading “High Focus 8th Birthday Party: Competition Time”
Laid back sounds on the new joint from Obadiah and Chillman. The two MCs unite over a nice lo-fi beat from Moff, with Badhabitz providing the cuts. The video was shot by This & That Media. The track is available to buy now via In The Balance Records.
It was already in the mid-20’s when I rolled down to this year’s High Focus Block Party in Bristol and it was only going to get hotter, given the days running up to the event. Last year’s party had been a smash and this year looked set to at least rival it, if not surpass it. Doors opened at 2pm so I got down there at about 3pm and already had to deal with the huge queue that had formed; a teeming mass of the new generation of UK hip hop fans all fully loyal to the HF brand (and all of whom I’m pretty sure I was old enough to be their dad). Brand new video from Split Prophets, lifted from last year’s ever dope Delta Bravo Kilo album. Roadhouse is produced by Badhabitz. The video was shot by Dfacer and the graff comes courtesy of Sace Gold. DBK is available now over on Bandcamp.
Big tune from the Dutch Mob boys as they celebrate the release of their long awaited Passport EP, with this slick new video for One Percent. Featuring Boston rap veteran, Ed O.G, One Percent is produced by Illinformed, with Chris Lucas (Arun Productions) behind the camera. It’s good to finally see the EP reach the masses. I know how much work has gone into it and they have taken their time to make sure everything was on point. It’s worked a treat. Continue reading “Dutch Mob ft. Ed O.G: One Percent + EP News”
Brand new from the Bristol duo comes Lift Music. Produced by fellow Split Prophet, Badhabitz, the track sees Res and Mistafire getting rowdy around the city. The Passport EP is out soon.
It was only on Monday that I went to interview the Dutch Mob boys and two days later they dropped this new bars session from New York. They have gone over there for a week or so and have taken This & That Media with them, so expect loads more videos like this one. Shouts to Res One and Mistafire (Plus Badhabitz on the beat), watch out for the interview coming soon.
Badhabitz should be a familiar name to any fans of UK hip hop, thanks to his success as a producer and member of Bristol gang Split Prophets. I had a chat with him about a few things, including forming the Prophets, crate digging and who his favourite producers are right now. Continue reading “Badhabitz: Interview”
Sticking with Bristol, the ever prolific Split Prophets crew just put out another new video, this time Upfront with his U.P.F.R.O.N.T. anthem. Produced by Badhabitz with a great video from Arun Productions, the track was orginally released in 2014 on the Upfront and Personal project.
Split Prophets have been a recognised name in UK hip hop since they burst out of Bristol with their Scribbled Thoughts EP. That was back in 2011 and after a slew of solo releases and a couple of posse cuts, this year sees the release of their first crew album, Delta Bravo Kilo. The eight strong collective have brought us 20 solid songs that prove exactly why they’ve amassed so many fans. Continue reading “Split Prophets: Delta Bravo Kilo”
