Detroit underground legend and J Dilla favourite, Phat Kat, is reissuing his 2007 Carte Blanche album. Phat Kat said that the decision to reissue was made “because it was put out right before the internet blew up, so it never really got to a lot of listeners. And it was a really good project that slipped through the cracks”.
Along with the reissue, he has also dug up a previously unreleased track for us to savour. It Don’t Get No Liver Than This is produced by Dilla and features fellow Detroit MC, La Peace. Originally recorded in 1997, it is one of two Dilla-produced bonus tracks on the updated version, alongside World Premier.
The album also boasts production from Black Milk, Young RJ and Nick Speed, with cats like Elzhi, Black Milk, Guilty Simpson and T3 providing some nice guest verses.
