Netflix has done well over the past few years with their selection of hip hop documentaries, with films like Time is Illmatic and The Art of Organized Noize giving us some great insights into particular eras of rap. Now the mighty Mass Appeal have announced their own docu-series, which promises to explore the global impact of hip hop culture.
Featuring artists like Nas, Dave East, 2Chainz and Rapsody, the series will give us some exposure of their day to day lives as, as well as some insight into studio time and tour life. Sacha Jenkins, one of the show’s directors, went deep on their decision to work with Netflix, saying “Way back, when hip hop culture was in its gestational phase, the powerful message therein didn’t go much further than the five boroughs of New York City. Today, rap music is the heartbeat of Mother Earth, and Netflix is the embodiment of the eyes from which she sees”.
The show is due to start on 30 March and will run for eight episodes. You can watch the trailer below.
